Woke up to some major news for not only DLive but the crypto space too! The King of Youtube, commonly known as PewDiePie is (was) Youtube's biggest content creator with a following of 93.7million subscribers. He consistently rakes in millions of views within hours for each video he posts on his channel. This will be a major blow to Youtube which I'm sure they'll quickly feel as more of its users follow suit.
The reason why people, content creators especially, will move to blockchain streaming services is that it's becoming less attractive to become a content creator on traditional sites like YouTube because they take a large piece of the creators' income. Apparently, YouTube keeps as much as 50% of the ad revenue generated to themselves. That's not counting the revenue they receive from companies who pay to advertise on the platform.
It's always been my opinion that these traditional companies will lose out to the new blockchain companies. These blockchain platforms are a hybrid of the "old" and the future, where users of such platforms get to earn money for their participation. Which is why in the long run YouTube will lose out to blockchain platforms like DLive, or Facebook losing to platforms like Steemit. We are headed to a future where the users are also shareholders in the platforms they've invested their time into.
PewDiePie's transition to this new system marks a huge turning point in our current reality and the snowball effect will gain strength from hereon. Personally, I would've liked for him to join the Steem family and live stream his content on Dtube. That's another race Steem is losing on but a topic for another day (next post).
About the move to his new home...
“I’m excited to start live streaming again regularly! DLive is great for me because I’m treated like a real partner, just like all of the other streamers on DLive’s unique platform,” he said. [Source: Deadline]
I'm extremely excited about this and waited 3 years to see this happen. And I have to say it's been a long time coming. I'll be posting an in-depth piece about traditional and blockchain platforms, my experiences with them, and where I think it's all headed.
That's it for this quick update, Cheers!
