With the continuous development of Artificial Intelligence and the capacity that it already has in 2018 to construct basic songs and other types of creative works, I think it's entirely possible that "robots" could become some of our favourite

I have been in the field of robotics for last several years and I have noticed a few interested things over the years. The truth is that automated processes are such a common occurrence in our daily lives that we don't even care for them anymore. From our cars to our refrigerators the application of automation has been around for last several years.
As a student of robotics I have also learned a few key aspects of it and how robotics is marketed in this world. The modern robotics is not about the cutting edge technology. Modern robotics is about how people perceive it. Allow me to explain -
Robotics is the future of the world. This was realized back in the eighties when automated process actually started to become intelligent operations rather than simply automated ones. When this was realized, robotics was marketed as a source of inspiration, rather than competition. Now that automation is everywhere, we need to realize the amount of monopoly some companies hold is far more strategic than it appears.
I have to admit this robot’s song is pretty good. I can imagine sitting at the bar and listen to this music. As long as I get the chance to be involved in this technology in a way such as Music ICO, I’m really excited about it. We all can benefit from this and not only production and singer. Yes, AI is inevitable, it’s only matter of time.
Oh boy, is this really where we are heading? Iona or however it’s spelled has nice voice I have to admit. I guess I’m saving all my CDs for the future. Even today’s singers will be replaced by robots. That’s what the future will be like. Universal income and most labor being done by robots.
Hahaha.. I believe humans would find it hard outcompeting robots at vocals.
I doubt any algorithm has soul in it. I gonna have to disagree on this one @louisthomas
We are still early to this technology but due to its huge growth, we could see it in the following years, the closest we have are the hologram concerts but the sounds are not created by AI, but we are close, very close.
nah AI and computers only make catchy formulaic pop songs, unless that changes in the next few years that is, I would prefer if we instead cut their heads off and put them in a jar like the presidents and famous people in Futurama :^)
"The fundamental difference between music and the other arts lies in the fact that music is experienced as if it reversed man’s normal psycho-epistemological process.
The other arts create a physical object (i.e., an object perceived by man’s senses, be it a book or a painting) and the psycho-epistemological process goes from the perception of the object to the conceptual grasp of its meaning, to an appraisal in terms of one’s basic values, to a consequent emotion. The pattern is: from perception — to conceptual understanding — to appraisal — to emotion.
The pattern of the process involved in music is: from perception — to emotion — to appraisal — to conceptual understanding.
Music is experienced as if it had the power to reach man’s emotions directly."
Ayn Rand, The Romantic Manifesto, 50
You make some interesting points but IMHO it think robots and AI will displace synthesizers not humans, at least for the foreseeable future. I also think that in an age of AI and robots many people will search for content made by humans so i think "man made" music may actually experience a renaissance.
Hey louis, I really don't know what the future holds and am just enjoying the way it all unfolds y'know. I am a guitarist and have played and written music for a while now. When the inspiration or initial urge comes to either write or play, I have no clue exactly where this comes from and cannot therefor claim to be the originator of the material. Although for copywrite purposes that may be another story!
For all I know, we could be in such a convincing simulation which already includes an excellent written program called, "You think you are in control of your thoughts and actions".
Either way, music/life will still happen, regardless of who is apparently at the helm.
Great video, thanks.
even though they can create a wonderful song. the song they created has no soul in it because the feeling is not real they not felt the joy or sadness that the real human feel
Slow clap.
You win.
My favourite musicians will be..records, because they are already all dead.
Some of them already are in a way. :D

That system is based on deep convoluted neural nets. It is incapable of creating anything really groundbreaking but it does a halfway decent job of creating music in existing styles.
I think that robot as artist is inevitable. and i dont think it is a bad thing. looking forward to it.
