5 Simple Steps to the Sentence Block Diagram
These are the 5 EZ steps to do sentence block diagramming:
Copy and Paste the Bible Passage into a Word Processing Editor.
Break the Passage Into Phrases
Identify the Main Clauses of the Sentences - Put them on the left margin
Indent the Subordinate Clauses so that the main themes will stand out.
Parallel the modifers such as conjunction words: and, but, or, etc.
In this video, I show you Step 3. We will go step by step so that you don't get too overwhelmed all at once.
Step 3 Video - Learn English Grammar: Sentence & Predicate
To do Sentence Block Diagram, you need to understand a little bit about English Grammar.
What makes up a Sentence? 2 Things.
- Subject (Noun + Pron-noun)
- Predicate (Verb)
Understand Main Clause & Subordinate Clausess
- Independent Clause can stand alone
- Subordinate Clause cannot stand alone
Main Clause:
- Usually at the beginning of a sentence
- Main Clause has a complete thought
Subordinat Clause:
- Subordinate implies that it supports the main clause
- Often there is a word there to modify the main clause
- Subordinate clauses cannnot stand alone on its own because of the modifying word
