Here in Australia in my state of Victoria we have a Labour Day public holiday in March. But happy May Day! I agree that it is one of the most important public holidays we have. I think lots of Australians are unfortunately a little apathetic when it comes to keeping solidarity with the workers, even though our Labour Day commemorates the achievement of the eight-hour day all the way back in 1855. The country was really quite progressive back then. I retain hope that people will be the most important part of our massive economy, not big business :)

I think it's true that our labour is totally unappreciated. Alomg with our bodies. If we can't slice ourselves thin enough to fit on some corporation's spreadsheet then we don't matter.

Looking it up... On Hawaii, they celebrate Lei Day today. Never heard about it before, but it sounds like a lot of fun.

Yay!!! Itโs May Day and here in my country itโs workers day and so all workers are kinda glad cause itโs a public holiday so no work. The roads are free and everyone is taking the advantage of this day to rest and enjoy their short holiday. For water girl, itโs a perfect day to surf the ocean and have some real fun . I am living in pakistan... here we celebrated labour day as a national holiday.. i agree to u that this day is to recognize the services of all the workers but i have noticed on unjust and that is when everyone was celebrating the holiday the labour was still working.. many of the workers even didn't know about this day.. so if we cant give rest to a labour for one day then we have no right to celebrate this holiday @mussakhan

In my country Slovenia, we have 2 Worker's Day. I do not mind at all, although many economists bitch about it :).
