You can argue for a sustainable, ‘humane’ (oxymoron) way of raising / killing the livestock. But animals eat other animals in nature. And humans have been eating meat for thousands of years. Why should we change that now?
On a serious note, I believe that it's unethical to eat animals. But personally I am not willing to get out of my comfort zone and I plan to continue to eat souvlaki for a long time to come.
The thing with vegans, other than being extremely annoying, is that they pretend to come from a high moral ground when engaging in a shit ton of activities (excluding eating meat) that directly or indirectly involves the death of a shit ton of animals. Sorry, unless you live in a cave or a forest consuming the least possible resources needed for your survival then you have no right to claim you are better.
But what about my right to stay alive? I need to eat meat!
