There probably will be a blocksize increase in the future. The problem was not the upgrade, but the way it is conducted. Top-down forced upgrades undermine bitcoin. For the moment we have segwit to build 2nd layer solutions like lightning and shnorr etc. Block increase is just a linear solution, for example, if you only want block increase as soluyion eventually well need Terabyte bolcks every 10 minutes, centralizing BTC. I dont think 2MB will affect decentralization so much, (so we might see it) but its not a sustainable solution. Hope that helps :D
