I'm myself an Anarcho-capitalist, but I have one doubt:
What if at least one of private defence agencies (for example - agency A) - which are an essential element of the Anarcho-capitalist concept - after aquiring right amount of customers - by strictly voluntary/free market actions (by serving better services for lower cost) - would:
- order its customers to pay more - under serious physical penalty;
- forbid them to use the help of other agencies - under serious physical penalty;
Those actions will probably result in:
- the deterrence of other customers
- resistance from (enslaved) already "owned" customers
- hostility from other security agencies - which will not normally be able to compete for (enslaved) clients of the "A" agency.
But what if ... the "A" agency will be able to overcome all of the above obstacles?
I own a PI business in Virginia. What you suggest could never occur. Without double standards and special protections under the law, a private security company could never get away with what you suggested. They would be sued into oblivion. All of their customers would leave. The company threatens them with violence? No one is bullet proof. Say I'm the CEO of that company. Am I going to live in a bullet proof box for the rest of my life? No, I don't think so. The market would resolve the issue you brought up, and it would do it well. No one is bullet proof. Tyrants wouldn't last long. The key to making it all work too is having a militia, and by militia I mean all able bodied people trained to arms.
Well .... education, education and education - this seems to be a very important part in our fight for Free Society.
Support of the common poeple is the biggest power that makes egsistence of the state possible, so maybe also support of the common people would be the biggest power that would make the egsistence of the Free Society possible to.
I'd even go a step further and say we need deprogramming, not education. I guess it depends on the definition used for education though. We are surrounded by well programmed robots, and they are dangerous. Government schools for example are responsible for some of the worst programming people get. Then they also get media, news, etc. all piled on as well.
This is fairly simple, as private defense agencies do not operate in a vacuum. I imagine there would be a form of natural checks-and-balances, specifically in the form of militias and community watches/defense.
It would be impractical for a defense agency to use violence against others to force service consumption, as the very act would be the impetus for people to defend themselves and fight back otherwise.
The first line of defense is the individual level, with home security measures and one's community, whether from friends, family, church, or other social/civic association.
I'm convinced about the human ability to wisdom, great virtues and having understanding of politics, but ... these advantages usually apply to a small percentage of people....
It bothers me a little.
