Mordenkainen's Tome of foes!

in #dnd7 years ago

So I drew the second day of the #dugeondrawingdudes drawing month, and realized I'm garbage and won't be sharing those unless they're actual dungeons!

That being said, I still wanted to talk about D&D, and what better time to do it than now!

Wizards of the Coast announced their new supplemental book: Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes!

What does this mean for D&D? Well it means we'll probably get an adventure soon after that deals with planar travel, since that's one of the many things that Mordenkainen is known for. I'm excited for a new opportunity to explore the multiverse, as the last time I did so was as a PC, and with an inexperienced DM (not that I'll do much better, necessarily).

Some things we know from the announcement:

  • It will NOT be a "Monster Manual 3"
  • More info in the form of an official announcement on Monday
  • There will be a regular and variant cover (same as previous books such as Volo and Xanathar)
  • The cost will be US$49.95
  • The release date is still May 29th, 2018
  • The page count has been updated to 256 pages and we it has been confirmed that it will be a hardcover
  • Content looks to be focused on multiverse and new monsters.

I think one of the coolest things is that Mordenkainen is one of Gary Gygax's original characters! The fact that PCs go on to be such famous characters in this world is just amazing to me and really helps with immersion.

Mordenkainen is a Wizard that hung out with the likes of Elminster at Ed Greenwood's house on Earth of all places, and once tried to take on Strahd. I think that if I run Strahd with my PCs next, they may just run into this mad man!

Tell me what you think about this in the comments! Are you looking forward to the return of Mordenkainen? Are you going to explore the multiverse with your PCs? What sort of monsters do you think we'll get to see?
