Low transaction fees and a stable value for a long time. The stable value part must now be discarded as one of the benefits of its use.

Those things could have been said about steem and SBD. Steem for speculation and influence on steemit.com and SBD for transactions as it was free on the blockchain and stable at $1 USD, plus 3 second blocks. Just need to peg it there now, somehow.
"There is the rub" as Shakespeare once wrote. What about pegging it to the dollar? Doge had been less volatile than the Steem dollar for some time. I am still not confident that Steem dollars will remain close to their pegged value. There are other stable coins but USDT is slow and expensive to use because it runs on Omni (bitcoin) and the others are Ethereum based. I think it makes sense to operate with more than one kind of dollar and then remove use of it dynamically if it drops to below 95 cents or goes above $1.05. I would hate to leave them on an exchange but if I do that though, I could trade them to real USD as the coins come in.
