A powerful, large and heavy, but athletic bear-like dog, the Tibetan Mastiff is bred for strength and agility. Originating with the nomadic cultures of Tibet, China, India, Mongolia and Nepal, it is used by local tribes of Tibetans to protect sheep from various animal predators.
These dogs can grow to a shoulder height of 30 inches and can weight up to 160 pounds.
Its body is slightly longer than the tall. The coat, which is likely heavier in males than in females, is thick and long, especially around the neck and shoulders. The tail is thickly coated and the hind legs well feathered on the upper parts. The hair is coarse, straight and hard, standing off from the body. It carries a heavy undercoat in cold weather, but little undercoat in warm weather. This combination of coats allows the Tibetan Mastiff to adapt to Tibetan weather.
Being used as a solitary guardian and protector in the past, Tibetan Mastiffs are independent, strong willed, and territorial. They are wary toward strangers but devoted to their family. Early good socialization is needed so that they will accept strangers and not become too suspicious. They are gentle and patient with their owners' children, but may guard their home against visiting children who might appear to be hostile to the family children. They are generally okay with other dogs with supervision. Most Tibetan Mastiffs are good with other animals.
Although seen in shows in the United States today, they are not ideal dogs in organized activities such as obedience or agility due to their highly independent natures.

fantastic video and very nice article my friend, well when i starting to watch video i first thought it was a lion but once i continue to watch i understand it was a dog, well this dog looks to me a very aggressive and powerful the way he is standing on his back feet it's incredible, i think it's a great to have such dogs for protection purposes of fatling, Stay awesome my friend and thanks for sharing.

A Goliath of a dog that is. It really is built for a cold weather kind of a dog plus it looks really fierce.
Great dog although it looks it is hard to keep him under control all the time. Sometimes it is hard even with my German Shepard which weight is around 90 pounds.
I plan to buy my own German Shepherd someday when Steem goes high.
