Adoption vs. Buying pets

in #dogs7 years ago

This is a subject very dear to my heart. First and foremost I'd like to clarify that this post isn't preachy or judgmental, I'm here to voice my opinions only.
As you can guess from the title, I'd like to argue why adoption, as opposed to buying is the better choice.

On the left you can see my dog, Ruby, four years ago at the shelter; sad, lonely but still hopeful. Fast forward to today and Ruby is a happy, loved and cared for dog. When you choose adoption over buying, you choose to save an animal's live and give them a second, or sometimes a third chance.
When buying from a breeder you are contributing to an industry of money-fulled, greedy people who, in most cases don't care about the animals they're selling but see them as a product to be consumed. Products, which in many cases are deemed "useless" and are being thrown into the streets.

I know for a fact that the day we adopted Ruby, he received a second chance and a home. The money we paid for him was a donation helping to keep the shelter for caring for the animals, finding them home and rescuing them from, sometimes, death. I could go on and on about this subject but for now I feel like this is enough.

Lots of love for you and your furry friends,
Mika.
