Some of you may remember our dog Bassie. A golden retriever, he is now over 5 years old. He is starting to get more and more of our traits, in the evening he announces himself that he also wants to sit on the couch. Then he comes to lie down with my wife, or between us. And then in such a way that I can no longer sit on the couch.
He has a whole box full of stuffed animals that he walks around with in his mouth. Everyone should meet his friends :) sometimes he lies there enjoying himself, half hanging on a stuffed animal.
The funny thing is that he always has to get something from the visitors. When someone comes to visit, he always yodels until he gets something. So now almost everyone knows that they have to give the car keys to Bassie. He then walks around proudly with them and at a certain moment puts them down next to him.
He always does that when we go into the garden. He first races to his box with stuffed animals and takes one out and takes it outside. Only he always forgets to take it back :)
He also has, several times a day, that he lies on his back. As if he is going to sunbathe. In itself quite a strange sight but funny. He loves to be tickled on his belly, then he can stay there for a very long time :)
He is a spoiled dog, but a very sweet one :) There is really no point on which we have anything to complain about him. He is sweet to us, to our visitors. Outside he behaves great, never pulling on the leash or being annoying to other dogs.
The only thing is that he can bark very loudly, especially when people come to the door. The mailman is sometimes very scared, but then he comes outside with his wagging tail and then you can just see that there is no harm in him.
And honestly, we live in a detached house so I am quite happy that no one can walk onto our property without Bassie starting to bark. At night he always lies by the front door, then he can keep an eye on everything. Sometimes we sit upright in bed from the fright, but we just accept that :).
Have a great day,
Peter
That barking can get annoying for sure, but you usually never have to worry about anyone messing with your house. Even people out on the road would move over to the other side when she would jump in the window barking. I had to get one of those RING cameras now that she is gone, it's so quiet...
No exactly, no-one comes unnoticed :) ... I hear you, we have had two dogs before. Two labrador's. After the second passed away I said that we never took a dog again, to much pain from the loss. But we are suckers for dogs and our youngest wanted a golden so desperate, so we did go with it.... There is alway one happy in tha house, and that's Bassie :) always !!
My wife and I were gutted and I think if it is up to her we may never get another one. It was just too painful. I think I cried more than I did when my grandma passed.
I know exactly what you mean. I was devastated by both labs passing. I don't remember crying so much... they are just part of the family.
For sure!
You have to wonder what goes on in their heads. Each dog has their own personality. We had dogs when I was a kid, but it's cats in our house now. They are also characters.

If they only could talk :) Cats, indeed, are some characters too. My brother has 4 of them. Although I hate cats in my garden (cause of Bassie and the birds) I do like them when I am at his house.
