Hello Hivemates. I owe you all an apology for leaving you on the hook, wondering, "How is Lovey?"
Lovey is doing pretty well. He's an awful lot happier. He has gained a lot of wieght, all of which is muscle. Really only a medium-sized dog, Lovey is insanely strong.
We made him a "dog run" which he has broken free from three times now. The first and second times, he followed us over to the front house and wanted to eat Acero-Lobinho, the other pup who showed up here and is now part of the family. I think we've got it secured well now.
This is Acero, also known as Lobinho, when he first showed up
The consensus around the neighborhood is that somebody tossed him out in front of our house actually...He was skin and bones, but fairly "healthy," around 6 months old. With his half hacked-off tail stump, he took shelter from the rain. When I approached him, keeping my distance, he crawled over on his belly, whining, and told me that I am the first human person who had ever been kind to him.
This is Acero-Lobinho, now, bigger and stronger and learning to herd chickens instead of humans. Although all he really seems to have learned is to herd them and also us.
Back To Lovey
We built him a lovely dog-house. He loved to sit up on the roof, which broke the roof. But we rearranged his run so that he can take refuge on the front porch.
It's fly-strike season which is awful. Lovey has a lot of ugly lumps with eggs in them, but he has also received an injection which kills them off and keeps them from becoming infected. His neck was all raw from the rope he was tied with, and that has healed and I got him a nice collar that doesn't cut into his flesh. Lovey and I are getting over an obstacle in our relationship which came about by me trying to treat his infected sores at home and extract the worms. He bit me all up my arm and so now I know that I cannot treat him at home; he really needs to go to a vet. Don't worry about me: it was a strong warning with no rancor that left me bruised and sore but did NOT break the skin at all. Here they think I am insane, but I say that he was really quite gently with his communication.
Lovey has had no vaccines and I have been strictly forbidden from castrating him, sadly.

Eoc7zohV67QQMtLYb1zKBDepKLfZs7Zu9KnATBfu8k9VCUCeM8poPtQGf1z9hUPfyPd.jpg)When I get up in the wee hours of the morning he is usually still asleep and will stay very calm and even offer me his belly. Thus I had the opportunity to inspect his teeth. Unfortunately, he may need a couple of teeth extracted; they look pretty infected to me. The country vet who would usually come out to the farm has been ignoring my messages. I believe he basically doesn't have the experience needed to give Lovey what he needs, because here nobody really cares enough to do these things for a dog. How ironic to be from a place where, "dog is man's best friend" and live in a context where they believe, "the dog is nobody's friend because he is always a traitor." My sister's dog will bring her her medicine...And as for Lovey, what I tell them is that if my life were even potentially in danger, Lovey would leap to the opportunity to DIE protecting me. That much is clear.
Well, if you have read this far I thank you. Also, I ask for you support because I have been delaying already, much too long in getting Lovey to a vet and now knowing that his teeth also need to be treated...It's a bunch of extra costs that worry me, I am ashamed to admit. What we are going to need to do is to request that a veterinarian prescribe a tranquilizer that we can give him first in order to put a muzzle on him and even be safe ourselves, transporting him in a vehicle. Then we maybe, probably should also buy a big dog crate to transport him in. And from there we will see what they say he needs. The fact that he has so many "ura" in his flesh tells me that his immune system is still not strong, even though he is so much stronger and healthier than he was before. Just look at that beautiful smile. Also he let my housemate walk by him today, sniffed his hand and though hesitant, he did not snap or bark at him and instead stayed calm and went to lay down. It's progress. But it's really been tough-going and sometimes it weighs very heavy on me. I was taking him off of his rope to go run and walk but he absolutely needs to run and get out some energy at first and he is too strong and fast and wild for my little body with joints that just slide apart at random times and for no apparent reason (Hypermobile Ehler's Danlos). We even tried attaching him to a big heavy tire with the metal rim, so that he could run and travel around a bit...but at least not kill Acero or any chickens. However, he still has so much strength to drag it and still also me at the same time, that I got jacked up trying to round him back up to the house recently.
Well, thanks again for givin-a-fart and reading about Lovey and We. I WILL let you guys know how things are going in January.
Primer Mensaje Sobre Lovey Dog
Hola Hivemates.

Besos
They're both really beautiful, and looking so much healthier and happier now they've found you to look after them. They've really landed on their paws ! I hope you can get Lovey the care he needs, then he'll be super happy 😀
How are the kitties ? I want to see photos of Milho and Patrick, their friendship is wonderful 😁
!BBH
They are two beautiful boys.. Now if maybe they can become friends and Lovey can run all over for at least a while everyday, I'll be super glad.
The kitties are great. Thanks for asking. I'll have to make some photos of them. They like living out here in the country a lot. Milho is only a little bit more inclined to humans, haha. He is a cat's cat. I love his wild spirit and that he hangs into it.
