Should we filter contests/giveaways in a different category at dPoll interface?

Daily giveaways/contests are great but it looks like the daily volume of giveaways is a lot and they allocate the most of the trending page.

What I propose is adding a new tab in the header (e.g: Contests/Giveaways) and list these polls in a different page.

If you create giveaway polls or participate in giveaway polls, please give that information in the additional comment section.

I have nothing against these contests, they're really great. But I think it would be nice to have a separate area for that. There might be people who only look for those or only for normal polls. Could be pretty useful to have separate pages for that. :)

Sometimes I create contest/giveaway polls, and I often participate in them.

Though I feel it will only make things easier for those who are only after giveaways, leaving the normal polls with lesser votes and participation.

I do giveaways and I think the change will be welcome by all parties involved.

I'm not sure how you would regulate it, and what the determining factor for a giveaway would be [ for instance, a normal blog post that also chooses to reward one of the random voters, is that a giveaway? what about a game: I run @dlotto and the RANDOBOX posts I consider as more "games" rather than "contests / giveaways" ]

But, all in all, for now I'd say that separating them is a good idea.

What are these giveaways? Ads. What happens if you forbid/displace them? They return in other forms. But let's give it a try.

I think a lot of people would only go to the contests if they were separate and then the other polls would suffer. I do enter contests here and sometimes have contests on my polls, but not often.

I plan to run a weekly (maybe even bi-weekly) giveaway... and think a separate tab would be both good & bad.

Bad: It's not gonna attract as many eyeballs - I assume it won't be the first thing users see when they log in.

Good:

  • A dedicated space for "contest-hunters" that come to dpoll just for the contests. - might even attract more/regular dpoll users as a result if dpoll contests are "easier to find".
  • dpoll users NOT interested in contest/giveaways (assumed to be typically lower quality/less "thoughtful engaging" polls) won't be inundated with these polls.

i.e. I think the good outweighs they bad.

I haven’t noticed myself as I don’t use it much but if there are that many I would separate them. I see dpoll as a way to do fun polls and not a flood of giveaways. Maybe have a checkbox “This is a giveaway” and it puts it there.
