Nowadays I have 987 followers, but most of them are inactive nowadays. They left Steemit (and the Steem blockchain) long (months) ago.
The low price of the Steem is definitely an important factor, but the major reason is probably the selfishness and the greed of the people.
People left because of their disappointment due to the lack of real, human interaction, and therefore low earnings.
Many people wrote blog posts on the Steem blockchain, but only a few people cared about other people's blog posts.
This somewhat changed since the initiation of the HarkFork 21 (HF21).
