I think that at first it has been the same with each "groundbreaking" type of evidence: photography, fingerprints, DNA, etc. Ultimately , all technology can be manipulated. Claims will also be made that exceed what the evidence purports.
We just have to be reasonably skeptical of any single source or piece of evidence and look for what does and doesn't line up―unfortunately we cannot count on everyone to do that, and sometimes the gullible will react as a herd before cooler minds prevail.
I think technology is just a tool. It is neither good, nor bad but the use of it makes it good or bad.
