There is higher correlation and lower correlation. I don't think correlation would be zero, but can be lower than actually.

I think to a degree, we've seen STEEM move one way or the other, and faster or slower, while Bitcoin has done something else. I can't say that means STEEM is completely free of Bitcoin or the general sentiment of the whole crypto market, but these jaunts on its own are rather encouraging that someone, somewhere is perhaps looking at STEEM as its own entity (even for pumps and dumps) rather than as a packaged deal.

Question is if bitcoin stays backup currency for crypto. doesnt always has to be.

if steem can scale to 1 billion people than maybe it can be independant.
