Eyes are probably the most important and noticeable part in a portrait, since it express feelings and emotions in the most obvious way. Drawing realistic eyes can be challenging, since you need to know how to make shades and draw reflection. This Is why I wanted to practice on how to draw realistic eye.
Step 1: Sketch the basic shape of the eye, including the eyelid and the eyeball. I also sketched the outlines of the reflection in the eyeball, so it will be easier to shade without messing the parts that should remain white.
Step 2: First I used a HB2 pencil to darken the pupil and the upper sides of the iris. I sketched some more outlines of the reflection in the lower and upper part of the eyeball and around the pupil. Then I started adding light shades to the rest iris.
Step 3: Using HB4 pencil I add another layer of shade to the pupil and to the darker areas of the iris.
Step 4: I added the final layer of shading using HB6 pencil. I also used this pencil to draw some reflections of the eyelashes in.
I used a HB pencil to draw the details of the inner corner of the eye, so it will have more texture.
Step 5: Adding more defining details.
I added light shades to the sclera (the white pat of the eyeball). I added lighter shading than the iris. Since I made the upper sides of the iris darker, I made sure that the upper area was darker as well. In order to make it look more realistic, I added thin eyelashes and tinny veins on the sclera.
Step 6: Final touches
The look of the seemed sad to me, so I decided to add a tear on the lower eyelid.
I drew the lower eyelashes , including where I placed the tear. The reason for that is because the tear is transparent so it makes sans that the eyelashes in this areas are still visible
The final touch was adding more eyelashes and adding a little touch of shading around them.
