In my previous post, I talked about how I need to let go of the illusion that only high-quality content is worthy of being posted. So here I am, keeping my word by sharing some sketches I made just yesterday using my graphic tablet which I’ve barely used three or four times since I bought it.
Now, I’m no artist, especially when it comes to drawing, but I do enjoy fooling around with pen and paper once in a while. I’ve done a few decent drawings in my agenda that I shared a few months ago, but I never really spent much time drawing with a tablet—something I was really excited about a few years ago.
Well, yesterday, I plugged the tablet into my computer because I needed it for something, and since it was already there, I decided to open Photoshop and put a few lines on a white canvas just to see what I could come up with. I ended up spending around two hours sketching these three things without really paying much attention to what I was doing:
What I discovered last year, while trying to draw daily, is that I don’t like spending too much time on one piece. I prefer sketching something quickly and then moving on to something else. It might not be the best way to improve, but when it comes to drawing, I’m more interested in having fun rather than getting better. Ironically, this mindset has helped me improve quite a lot.
This is just a random activity I do once in a while when the mood strikes and I have some free time. Because I don’t think highly of my art, producing anything decent makes me quite happy—so I was pretty proud of these three pieces.
Also, below, I’ve included the three reference images I used, so you can see the difference between what I created in about two hours and what I was working from.
Do I plan on doing more of this in the future? Sure, if the mood strikes. Will future sketches be better than these? I have no idea. My goal is just to have fun.
