Pencils, pencils, smears and a lot of patience is what is needed to create works with so much detail of the hand of an artist
The first thing that struck me is the similarity of Monica Lee's technique to the work of Juan Francisco Casas (saving of course the erotic theme of the latter) but instead of using the pen, using graphite as a tool.
Detailed and meticulous, Monica Lee can extract each volume and each texture from the sheet of paper. And it takes about 3 or 4 weeks to finish one of his works.
Now that the digital has become normal, many times we do not have time to work with tools as always. Sometimes, the immediacy and, above all, Cmd / Ctrl + Z makes testing and error easier. This is great, but sometimes it seems to me that if we did not have this command, and we had to sit down and think about the line that we are going to carry out, on the next step, our work would improve, since we would be sure to do it well, the pros and cons of all decision making. Nowadays the immediacy makes us professionals who are not very careful, which gives us much piece done but little quality. What I do not say are not quality what we do, but it is not the same AAA that + AAA. There is try to achieve excellence.
To finish, to say that I love the work of this girl, technically speaking. Maybe it lacks, with such good graphics that it has, be a little more subjective, and try to communicate more than just shaping a black and white photo. Can you imagine the world of space with this level of realism? Bizarre beings from the depths? It would be really cool. What do you think?
