Very interesting work, @scrawly! Many thanks for sharing!

My pleasure trin :D.

That type of woman scares me, but the art looks great, especially how her hair flows endlessly. Do you have a self-portrait??

You've been staring at it the whole time, my avatar ... that's me bwahaha.

I was practicing subtle gradation with her hair. It's kinda fun and I like the result. I'm glad that you do as well.

Thanks Matt ^_^.

Her eyes give her away. Don't they? Being envious of what we perceive others have, that we don't, can be such a conditioned illusion. In one sense we all have exactly what we need. Bit hard to generalize about jealousy ~ But I guess basically it seems to arise from the feelings associated with not being worthy and not being content with who we are ~ Or becoming. I liked the way the violet adds to the form of her face in the final stage of the painting. A touch of green could have symbolically accentuated the idea of jealousy maybe ~ Green eyes? And yet green is the colour of the heart ~ So I wonder why green is associated with jealousy. Just musing. ♥︎♥︎⚖️♥︎♥︎

I've had a talk with my friends about negative emotions. It feels kinda funny to me that most people would deny ever feeling these emotions as if they're incapable of feeling negative, and the ones who actually accept and own their feelings, both good and bad, are the more rounded and reasonable ones. Not really sure if it's applicable world wide or just within my circle of friends though.

As for green, I associate it with the colour of greed and nature. I usually pick colours aesthetically than logically, but I do remember that I want to give this picture a cold feeling.

Thank you Ally :).

Nice! What did you draw it on? The texture makes for an interesting effect.

I drew this on a small piece of paper, Japanese brand. They're cheap so they're great for experimentation :D.

I've noticed that watercolour papers are various and they have their own personalities and textures. And the colours react differently onto each one of them, which doesn't happen in digital media.

Thanks cizzo :).

A very apt depiction of jealousy, @scrawly! Somehow, your description made me think of the lyrics of a song called Chelsea Monday by Marillion:

Catalogue princess, apprentice seductress
Hiding in her cellophane world in glitter town
Awaiting the prince in his white Capri
Dynamic young Tarzan courts the bedsit queen

She's playing the actress in this bedroom scene
She's learning her lines from glossy magazines
Stringing all her pearls from her childhood dreams
Auditioning for the leading role on the silver screen

Patience my tinsel angel, patience my perfumed child
One day they really love you, you'll charm them with that smile
But for now it's just another Chelsea Monday
Chelsea Monday

That is a cute lyrics, some people are so good at combining words to play together nicely.

Thank you cogi ^_^.

She looks cold. Great use of cool colors. And the expression and face shape! You'll get nothing warm from this cold one.

Yes, you get my intention through the choice of colours that I picked ^_^. I only want to give her a very subtle blush, representing the rare few moments when she can restrain her ugly feeling and be kind to others.

You are so nice and I will eat this comment now :D.

Thank you Jesus. I'm glad that you enjoyed it :).

Very good!

Thanks eaudebla :D.

Great work!

Thanks :).

I really like how you've captured the title in the face of this figure! There is something deep and bitter about her emotions and you can tell by the eyes * ___ * When an artist can deliver emotional contents in their pieces, I think it is marvelous, because personally, I tend to draw emotionless faces, just pretty but unthinking kind of faces, and with this one, there is a palpable character that is portrayed, and portrayed well, so I think you've nailed this one really well, @scrawly :D

I really love how she's looking sideways, as if eyeing something she can't have and how she's touching her own face with her hands, as if feeling what she DOES have and finding it (subconsciously) insufficient... and wanting, wanting, wanting....

A really lovely portrait work, this one, scrawls! Kinda haunting but also really striking <3 I love it :D

It is hard for me as well to draw emotive pictures. It is much easier to make a beautiful happy person, or capturing pretty objects or landscapes than making an art that tries to convey other emotions, especially negative feelings. But I want to be able to draw various stuff and improve myself as an artist, so I try to challenge myself when I can.

And indeed, this person can never really be satisfied. Even when she has good things in her life, she craves for what others have because she is hollow inside.

Thank you spider, I am glad to receive your comment :D.

She's purple with envy!
I like your watercolour technique very much, good use of palette @scrawly.

Ahhh yeah, that's a great way to describe her, hahaha.
