"The Queen's Snack"

in #drawing6 years ago (edited)

Hello everybody! I continue to draw my collection of drawings about "Poor man's and rich man's food."
Today I will show you one of them- "The Queen's Snack"

I decided to drawing a small still life with objects which could have been the queen's snack: apricots and sweets.
Poor man's not could afford such delicacies.

Apricots were brought to Europe thanks to the crusades. For the first time this trees began to grow in Provence.

Sweets with the addition of sugar were first produced in Italy in the 16th century. But they were sold only in pharmacies, as it was believed that they have the strongest medicinal properties. They were assigned only to rich adults, which, of course, was unfair to children. Soon they were no longer sold in pharmacies and moved to store shelves, which pleased both children and adults.

I decided to supplement the composition with an bright unusual flower from North America-" Campsis", which in its form is very similar to a small pipe.

It was first cultivated by colonists in Virginia. In the early 17th century, he was brought to England.
