This is my third outing with my Phantom 3. Working during the week does not allow me much free time to practice. So went to my field on Saturday and took the Phantom 3 with me.
The drone itself is white together with the remote control. There is soil and dirt everywhere in the field and was taking every piece of care not to dirty it. It's crazy how care need to be given.
Walking with the drone
@00:13 - Sugarcane field harvesting. Some fields have already been cleared and the ground has become yellowish
@00:53 - Rising to the 30m height (beginner mode still on)
@02:07 - The mountain climbed by @andr1an0 and the post which you can read here
@03:20 - Surreal landscape with the bright sun and clouds
@05:05 - Greenhouse cultivation structures
@06:25 - 2 migrating birds flying in Mauritius. They were mixture of light orange and light red colors. Don't know which species they were though. Started to fly lower fearing they might attack the drone.
Have been walking with the drone while it was moving. Noticed that once on the mobile app the 30m warning appears, as I was in beginner's mode, even if I walk, the drone will not move any further.
Crash landing
I had set the home point of the drone and have set it to rise till the 60m mark to see how it performs in the wind. Since the drone was going to return to the home point anyway I was not very scared. This was my first time using the feature but after having watch some drone videos previously, my fear was less.
@00:18 - trying manual landing and was unsuccessful, so I flew it back up
@02:35 - hit the "return to home" button on the mobile app and the drone start to rise till the 60m mark
@03:03 - the drone starts to slowly lowering itself automatically
@03:58 - the drone missed the landing target. The camera is filming the white box on which it was supposed to hover when landing automatically. Decided to do it in manual mode
@05:15 - after struggling for 2 minutes to get the drone to obey the controls, I managed to make it hover above the box but with the wind it was shaking a bit and only one leg touched the box and it toppled over.
Luckily no damage was done. The drone missed the "return to home" because I was walking with the drone while it was flying. The communication between the controller and the drone does not work well when walking in beginners mode. Eventually the home point calculation got scrambled in the drone memory and did not land where expected by some 10m.
While walking and navigating the drone got mixed up in directions. Did not know how this happened but I am assuming it is because of the beginners mode. The controls got inverted in directions and even pressing forward, it was going side ways.
Conclusion
Though the drone looks fragile, it is still very robust. The hard shell around the motor will protect it in crash landing but the main weakness is the camera which is also expensive.

I cant resist to fall inlove with this place... im glad we still have a place like this.
Thanks for the support! Unfortunately there was an anti-cyclone in the region last week and could not make any flyby. More vids coming soon. Cheers!

Hi pilot ;),
perhaps you got landing problems because of the rough ground? In my mind, the return to home function (RTH) is working very well, did you use the home point modus that the drone is orienting where the remote is located? Normaly it saves the starting point via GPS and returns to the point very reliable.
If you direct the cam vertical, you can precisely see, where the drone will go down. I'm landing my drone in 99% of the flights manually, it's really simple with the DJI Mavic Pro.
I wish you more good flights and footage! ;)
Hi @allessuper
I had configured the home point as this was the first time I was going to use the feature. On the app it was showing as registered.
When walking alongside the drone and still moving it, the drone probably has some internal logics in built when in beginners mode. This might have scrambled the location calculation.
Next time I am planning to remove beginners mode completely and I will check how the drone behaves and include the analysis.
Do check it out.
Read about the specs of Mavic Pro. It is better than the Phantom 3 but isn't yet available in Mauritius. My bad luck :(
Realy nice landscape! Ill be waithing for more.
Thanks!!!
Will be posting more soon with beginner's mode off. Will have longer travel distances and landscapes will be more awesome.
Cheers!
