Here we go, the Buddy UP server "Word of the week" as chosen by the crew who participated in last weeks show is:
= CIRCUMSTANCE.
First thing that came to mind is the plural of the word.
Circumstances.
Why?
Well, is there ever only one circumstance?
We can I guess single one out, yet it is always dependent upon other circumstances too, so from all the situations that bounced around in my head, there was not one single circumstance that could be singled out and that wasn't affected by other circumstances.
Surely some linguist would prove me wrong, but here I am not talking about theory, what I am referring to is reality.

Seriously when you think about it logically and with an open mind, you will see my point here.
Can we ever, in real life take any one circumstance and not have it be dependent upon any other circumstance out there?
I have not been able to think of any one example.
A very interesting word to mull on, definitely makes one think about what all we as individuals do and how it affects everything around us.
At least it did for me when I got into it.
More thinking than typing, that is for sure, & I believe that anyone reading this "Drop In The Ocean" post shall think about what I just wrote about and come to very similar if not practically the same conclusions as I have tried to describe here. A "Food for thought" word of the week, that is a definite.

I use it in the singular form in my piece, but I totally agree with you that even when used singularly, a circumstance is just one of the many circumstances that are surrounding it. Still, there is allowance for a single circumstance to have the focus.
