Drugs and society
Drugs have always been something that humans have utilized for religious, recreational, and more recently, therapeutic reasons. Although, there are lots of good reasons to use drugs (I do not condone any use of any drug), there are also quite a few down-sides to drugs.
First, let’s discuss some of the good things about drugs. They are very common in traditional religious rituals, but because of laws those rituals can no longer be performed most places. Recreationally, drugs are a huge part of that, if someone goes to a party, there’s more or less always lots of alcohol, and sometimes illegal substances. And of course, there are therapeutic properties to several substances which are illegal in most places, the most known of these substances are LSD, MDMA and cannabis.
Now, there is also quite a few down-sides to drugs. Several drugs may have a serious impact on people’s health and/or social life, such drugs are sugar, alcohol, crystal methamphetamine, krokodil, and the list goes on… There is also an economic impact because of drugs, if a person is addicted to a drug, most times they choose that drugs over something like food or drink, also many governments lose lots of money on trying to eradicate illegal drug use, although this clearly does not work.
So, in conclusion, I would suggest that governments de-criminalize either all, or most drugs. Just look at how Portugal is doing now. And for the people who either use hard drugs such as meth or heroin, or want to use something like this, all I can say is that they are not fun in the long run.
