I, for one, am tired of these "tittle-tattle" talks of drug traders in Lagos especially. So I heard one say "we are all sick so we need to buy the bitters to be cleansed". Anywhere you go- in a bus, on the streets, in the markets- everywhere. You can’t escape their messages either via local publicity, Public Address systems directed to your hearing buds, adverts on local radio, flyers and billboards.
The most annoying is the noise trail on long buses locally referred to as "molue or moluwe" as an average Nigerian would say. In short, it’s an acceptable practice in such big buses. One would either buy or have a saliva-bath so long there are people around the tradesman or standing close-by. The mystery of these drugs, according to them, having absolute curative power holds my attention.
Only one drug or bitter concoction will cure staphylococcus, tuberculosis, toilet infections, liver disorder, kidney paralysis, pile, cough, flu, ulcer and so on. Who does that? Or which drug is omnipotent in itself to do these wonders?
Even the whites make drugs for certain ailments. It is likely a drug cures more than one ailment but it should be under an umbrella name probably pain relievers, itch relievers etc. I’m not a doctor neither in the medical line but from personal conversations with some medical friends, I am aware no drug has the absolute cure to all diseases.
At this point, I will leave this piece open to suggestions, contributions or general comments on the issue because I also want to be schooled on this subject.
