I am down with adding complexity to the battles, I would suggest that you should implement a Steem Monsters style database where players can read, learn about and gain understanding over the unique abilities of each army unit, and how they might interact.

Does a sniper focus long range targets? Or just the first unit coming in? And if so, which unit comes in first? Is melee always first?

You know, like Steem Monsters.
