A chord of a circle is a straight lineage segment whose endpoints both lie upon the circle. A secant parentage, or just secant, is the infinite lineage augmentation of a chord. More generally, a chord is a parentage segment joining two points upon any curve, for instance an ellipse. A chord that passes through a circle's center reduction is the circle's diameter. Every diameter is a chord, but not every one of chord is a diameter
