Hello guys!
I'm @crissimoes and this is my thirty first post here on @dsound! Are you ready for another class?
Today we will learn how to make Negative Sentences in portuguese.
Let’s get started!
In portuguese the most common way of making negative sentences is using the word “não”. For example:
Eu aprendo. – I learn. (Afirmative Sentence)
Eu não aprendo. – I don’t learn. (Negative Sentence)
Eu escrevo. – I write (Afirmative Sentence)
Eu não escrevo. – I don’t write (Negative Sentence)
But there are other ways of making things negative with these words:
- Nenhum/Nenhuma – No, None
- Nada – Nothing
- Ninguém – Nobody
- Nem – Nor
- Nem sequer – Not even
- Nunca/Jamais – Never/Ever
In portuguese you need to place the negative word before the verb in order to get a correct portuguese word order:
Subject + Verb + Object
Let’s check some exemples:
- Eu não gosto de peixe. – I don’t like fish.
- Ele não come carne. – He doesn’t eat meat.
- A Teresa não vai à escola amanhã. – Teresa doesn’t go to school tomorrow.
- O meu tio nunca vai ao ginásio. – My uncle never goes to the gym.
- Nunca mais vou àquela loja! – I will never go that store again!
We have come to the end of another Portuguese Class.
