Notes

Petrichor is the characteristic scent produced by rain falling on dry soil. This piece is an improvised, tempo-less performance with a synth patch from my Yamaha Montage that I manipulated in various ways. I made three clones of the performance and automated some effects such as flanger and bitcrusher as well as volume/panning. I added a synth bass and some free domain rain sounds to increase the overall ambience. The approach I used was to use the post-production to "justify" the musicality of moments that happened spontaneously. I would say it was partially successful. It was an enjoyable experiment!

I could easily go back and spend many more hours automating to change the overall texture/specific timbres of moments. The piece could stand a melody/words as well, in the future. However, it would be challenging, as the timing is somewhat random (free tempo.) There are some pretty gnarly overtones throughout, as well, since the synth I used had a heavy audible fifth overtone (especially evident in the dissonant development section and at the end.) If you have any feedback on how I could develop this further, or any comments at all, don't hesitate to let me know! Have an awesome day!

I don't understand all of the technical terminology of how you put this together. I'm no musician but I know what I like. Whenever I'm working on the computer, whether it be art or writing, I have music playing. I like music without lyrics so I can focus on what I'm ding instead of what the singer is saying. Ambient/New Age music is one of my favorite types. It's generally very relaxing and 'natural'. I could easily put this piece on a loop and get lost in my work with it as the soundtrack. The only complaint I would have is that it is not long enough. Being just over 3 minutes would make the repetition more apparent. Overall, though, I thought the sound was quite soothing. It is really a great sounding piece of work.

Thanks for the comment @bringitback! I am the same way with words distracting me. I can listen to calm instrumental or ambient music only while working. I really appreciate the feedback and I'll consider extending this track out for you so that you can repeat it with less glitches :-) I also intend to keep making daily ambient pieces when I can, so you could download a bunch of them and put them in a playlist. Thank you again for checking out my work!

I'll keep my eye open for them. This was a really good piece of music. I look forward to more. Thank you for sharing.

again ambient! cool! my passion:)

petrichor - yeah, I've discovered this words recently.
Smells tasty and fresh
but here I was expecting to hear something related to rain sounds (according to the title), but you're an unpredictable man:))

what was your idea? My guess - emotions that appear while listening are the same that we feel while sniffing the petrichor. Is it close?

And yes, I think, the sounds of rain or falling water drops will add some new magic tones here. How do you think?

Sometimes I wonder if you ever get writer's block or recording or voice block if there's anything as that, this is tenderly beautiful makes me reminiscent of your early dsound days

I get periods where I'm less excited to create, but I treat it like a discipline. I've found if you always switch gears with different styles it's pretty hard to get burned out. Especially if you switch between writing, music, cooking, hiking, and so many other creative activities. I'm glad you like it @josediccus and hope you've been well! It's cool that you've been around since those days, haha!

Yes well I do not record that often this days, I just do, once a week, what can I say, you have mastered the art of coping with the block and well, it's been a while haha

d-sound hates you gimme soundcloud :P

Haha, it's there, must've still been editing the post when you commented :-P

Wow it just blew my head away.

Thanks... assuming that's a good thing? Lol

Interesting Ambient vibes going on here. Super glad I found your stuff. Being and artist myself i appreciate hearing what other people on the platform are doing. Has an other worldly influence on me.

i love your sonics. definitely has a video game vibe to it (zelda or something)... keep at it! check out my sounds if you get a chance

This piece you created matches the weather and my mood so nicely.
It is the perfect background sound while doing something where you need to put more creativity and focus on, at least for me.

I'm looking forward to hear more from you and hopefully this will turn into a little playlist. :)

I'm happy to hear it matches your environment @nikolina! I've got a few other ambient tracks, probably the most calm one that comes to mind for having in the background is called "The Moment—a Still Drop of Emerald," here's a link to it. Have an awesome day and thanks again for stopping by and taking a listen!

I checked it out yesterday and now I'm starting my day listening to it again.

I don't know much about meditation, I tried it out few times but never really sticked to it. I would look for ambient/instrumental music with the intention to meditate but with this specific track it was the other way around, it got me into meditative state of mind without my intention, if that makes any sense.

Another one I really like is Diaphanous streaks across the hills, it reminds me of nature waking up in the Spring time and when everything comes to life after a long and cold winter.

And yes, I am creeping on your SoundCloud now, please don't mind me. :D

A very chill track, man. It reminded me of playing the Legend of Zelda on the 64, very calm and surreal sounds.

That's cool @d-pend and it's so experimental. Keep it up. We want more.

Thank you for listening @shirosh and for the words of encouragement. I shall make more in time! :-D

awesome stuff! i'm trying to get onto dsound but i keep getting an error when attempting to login with my login name and posting key- it says 'cannot read property "posting" of undefined'... any idea what this means / what i should do ?

This creates a sort of fun but calm environment it's a great combination
