Krautrock is defined, first and foremost, by the Motorik. I've touched on this in past posts, but the simple concept of maximally repeating Kick Kick Snare Kick Kick Kick Snare to infinity both builds a rock solid foundation for experimentation and, to some degree, lulls the listener into a drone where each new details is allowed to fully shine. All while being just about the most propulsive thing you can do on a rhythmic instrument ....
.... except maybe for what we did with this song! By reducing the signature motorik beat to KICK SNARE KICK SNARE to infinity, we took an almost industrial, Ministry-style cue and applied it to the spacerock/krautrock foundation Maserati has been building upon for awhile. The result ROCKS, in the way that guys on the television tell you something TOTALLY ROCKS DERD. I love the soaring guitar lead, I love my dumb little addition to the end figure on the drums in the second and third verses and how it breaks up the bassline. I love the epic ending. This track, definitively, was where I finally felt like a fully integral part of Maserati, driving it (pun intended) to places in the rock hemisphere it may have previously been too classy to go.
Whatever planet this music fits on, it's definitely Earth-like.
