my friends electric 10

in #dsound7 years ago (edited)

This was the final entry in the mfe series and I wanted to go out with a bang. It is pitched somewhere between the a-to-b journey of #7 and the layered edits approach of #8. This is a mix that pushed all my technical arrangement skills to the maximum. Just to note, technical skills don't necessarily trump plain good selection, but it was the artistic focus of this mix.

It is worth noting that this mix features my one and only track that I have actually issued into the real world. Writing and DJing are my poisons, production is on the learn list as I start to amass a home hardware studio. This is possibly one of the most diverse sessions I have created, starting at ambient drone, powering up to full blooded techno and electro, before dipping into the weird side of dub and breaks, finishing on a personal favourite in the form of Ocarina Of Time's Forest Temple music.

In able to assist and appreciate what is going on and where, I've bracketed sections together where there is a lot of textural layering happening. Hopefully this illustrates that this isn't just some dude playing down tracks end to end in a computer for once.

PS: it's worth going and checking the individual tracks if you have a curiosity of how much or how little I used of them. You have no idea the amount of cutting up, editing and EQing that goes on!

I'll give you this one for free.

** Art Department vs Fairmont - Unloved (The fourfourfun Drama Edit) **

Dude that Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble is as deep of a cut as they come !!!!!!! are you familiar with Bohren and der Club of Gore? kind of in that same Doom Jazz vein, and super Noir type vibes. You would dig.

CONFESSION TIME. I have no idea where I picked that up. This is from the glory days when I'd just rake music down and absorb it!

You should dig into that band and the one I mentioned. They are both excellent. I especially like Bohren and der Club of Gore because they were are all Doom and Black Metal musicians who had grown bored with the genre and were like "let's make some super chill shit"
