I had promised a surprise native Israeli reader on my most recent shabbat blog. Here he is reading part of Genesis in the second chapter.

Super thanks to @asafb2k for taking the time to send a recording of b'resheet in the mid section of the second chapter, read fluently by Asaf Bereby who lives in the land of milk and honey. Verse numbers are slightly different in the Hebrew bible, which is why I said midsection. (Asaf had given me permission to post using his reading and I have been waiting to do this post for a very long time.
Now that you have heard the bible read fluently, you will agree that the slow and short sets of words that I read are just that, slow and short. You should find yourself associating sounds with the letter imagery, then noting the niqqud (vowels) and their location. Pause and repeat when I post a short reading. (difficult to do with today's passage- but try if you feel up to it!)

Problem:
Asaf read all the words as he sees them. He is used to reading Hebrew without the niqqud (without the vowel markings).
Here is a note from him shortly before he made this recording

you see he does not use vowel points, but the Tanakh does have them
As he read in Genesis (b'resheet), I heard him say a word several times. The word was missing a vowel, but Asaf clearly said the vowel. I am pretty sure he used the correct pronunciation of that word. Your job? Find the word. Spell the word in the comments. Then show me the letter and include the vowel that was missing.
Rules:
Identify the missing vowel. You must spell the word that was missing a vowel. Then either write the letter with the vowel in place or capture it from another word. Snap a picture if you wrote it, or take a screen shot if you found the same letter that has the correct vowel. Post it to the comments.
First one to comment correctly wins!
Example: The word was bet resh alef and the letter was bet'

I need to learn this language in order i need to read the bible in the hebrew language that is my wish Sir but i think i need to start learning From A B C maybe thats hard for me

I was very nervous about posting these sacred letters as some people would copy and paste without knowing the significance of this very sacred name.
I feel the same way. Since I wrote that you won, I have not been able to get back on line. My computer (which runs for 8 months at a time without breaking a sweat) needed a restart and only half the programs run now. I have got back ups of my passwords but typing in posting and active keys is not fun. I can't pull up a text editor.
Well, I am limping here, but I will check the whole list. I don't work on Shabbat but I was able to get my computer half up and running just before sunset. Craziness.
I am trying to read the text and listen to the audio at the same time from my phone as I ride the train to a Construction job site. Who would ever have imagined learning Hebrew this way. Only on Steemit.
The sound "O"..... Vowel: cholam is missing from the letter Heh in the text you posted.
Maybe there are other words like this .... I will keep looking.

Awesome.... this the 1st time I hear YHVH spoken instead of Adonai.
It surprised me as well. The oral "law" says not to pronounce the name as it is written. He just read along and pronounced what he saw. What more proof do you need that it's not Yahohuho. I found it with all the vowels in scrolls so there was no question in my mind. This is his name and it is prophesied that we will know it.
The Oral Law may say that but God (yhvh) Himself says this : “So shall you say to the children of Israel, 'YHVH (ee-Hovah) - God of your forefathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.' This is My Name forever, and this is how I should be mentioned in every generation.”

I just read that in Hebrew, it is the Father's name written the same as it is in the Gen 2 passage that Asaf read. The same as the one you completed above with the Cholam above Hey.
Yes.... Chabad Uses the cholam above the letter Heh..... יְהֹוָ֞ה
I am sure the very oldest forms of the Name do not include the Vowels since it was written after a very very long Oral Tradition.

@theguruasia - that is wrong. Great translation of Asaf's note to me, but the answer was in the text Asaf read Yehovah was missing the "o".

Even if we don't agree on everything, I think it's a good thing you are doing. Lashon hakodesh is returning...!
I'm not writing this to be argumentative, but to make a friendly, small correction. You mentioned that the TaNaKh has nikkudot, but this is only so in some text books, used for learning. A Torah scroll used in services has no nikkudot or cantillation marks.
Perhaps I misunderstood you though, and you were specifically referring to the copy that you are using here?

We need not agree, but we should love on another. I am a fellow learner who didn't grow up in the culture and language. i agree with what you said (not all have the niqqudot). There are thousands of scrolls that were found in Russia and other countries when the country gained more freedom / government changed.
Some have never been opened. They were moved, cataloged and stored. The number of requests to see each scroll is recorded. Many are now able to be viewed on line including about 1% of what is there. I may do a post on these items.
With that hope and goal, I agree entirely :)
I'd be interested to see the Torah scrolls that you are referring to. Though I have heard of the lost (some now found) troves from the USSR, what you are suggesting about the nikkudot, is new to me. You make me wonder about their story and function.

I am... but I am more interested in learning Hebrew from indigenous Hebrew speakers. I want to learn how Moses and King David and Jacob and Jesus spoke in their Native Israeli Hebrew Jewish tongue.

I have tried to learn Hebrew many times so that I could understand certain portions of the Torah, Talmud, Zohar, Bahir, Sefer Yetzirah, the Dead Sea scrolls that piqued my interest but I coul never understand the vowels .... I am fascinated with the Hebrew Aleph Bet
That's awesome I haven't got that far yet I had an interesting conversion experience roughly 5 years ago. I've been wanting to take Hebrew classes but circumstances just haven't allowed that yet. Are there Christian tags or Christian groups on steemit that you know of or any bible/Torah readers?
Yes they are. He speaks fast - I know what it's like to learn, so I slow it down and show the motions as your eyes should find letter, vowel, letter etc.

Did you know that Man was created by Elohim in Gen 1:27 and Adam was Formed (Yetzirah) by YHVH in Gen 2:7 ....
And YHVH Elohim (Lord God) formed (Yetzirah) man of dust from the ground, and He breathed into his nostrils the soul of life, and man became a living soul....
I did not know this. I went back and read Gen 1:27 and 2:7 and was amazed to see this. Was mankind created on the 6th day and Adam formed on the 8th day ?
