This is a podcast version of a video from Day 166 of going off-grid. I went 'off grid' six hundred and sixty days ago and it has been quite the journey since I got dropped off at this old fallow farm and built (continue to build) all my own infrastructure. I have been video documenting the entire process and have just recently begun publicly sharing some of the videos. I have been sharing the videos privately since I started the entire process which I call Jacob Goes Off Grid In The Woods. 'Day 1' is the morning after I arrived at this little place in the mountains in the 'dead of winter' on January thirteenth of two thousand and seventeen with my dogs, my wits, minimal gear and very little hard currency to work with. Slowly I have done my best to breathe life into a very old farm and give it all my best, 'learning as I go', and documenting the process as best I can. It has been quite the journey so far. @jacobpeacock

In this video I talk about getting a lot done this day and show a small black locust statue that I made. I explain how I placed the statue in a place where I had noticed getting a lot of 'foot traffic' where people were entering the property.
I show some small sassafras trees growing in what is mostly a pine forest and talk about looking for blueberry plants growing near the sassafras trees.
I talk about not liking to walk through the area I am walking in and how I go slow and use a walking stick to poke the ground in front of me as I go.
I show some of the downed pine trees (and log piles left by loggers) that I previously mention in multiple other videos.
I talk about how I use a walking stick to sort of pole vault off of downed trees and logs so that even if a snake is laying under one I will land far enough away from the log or tree to avoid being struck.
I show where I did some brush clearing in the new homesteading area and talk about how thick the vegetation was.
As always this is just a summary of the video's content and not meant to explain everything that I cover in the video.
