Drifting Sideways (Dsound exclusive)

in #dsound7 years ago

Here is a little patch I put together on my eurorack modular synthesizer. The sounds you hear are a one shot performance recorded into a single stereo track. It was mastered a bit using vsts in ableton to give it a little extra polish. This one is a little weird but I still like it a lot and hope you do to.

This piece prominently features Mutable Instruments Rings and Braids(in vowel mode) and the Make Noise Mysteron. The Bass drum is a Hexinverter Mutant Bass Drum. The mutant bass drum is based on the bass drum circuit in an 808 however its been modified with a vactrol to allow control over the pitch. Vactrols use LEDs and light depend resistors sealed together in a light tight package to create what is essentially a voltage controlled resistor. Each vactrol has a unique response due to the difference in manufacturing of the leds, however this response is often "goey" what this means is its slow and takes a second for the parameter to catch up with the control. This can be useful for creating interesting exponential pitch envelopes on the mutant bass drum by simply sending a short burst of voltage, often refereed to as a trigger or gate. The mutant bass drum is a great module however its an odd number of hp... which means I will need to build or buy another odd hp module for the row I have it in.

thanks to all my followers and to everyone for upvoting. please feel free to drop questions about modular below.

Fascinating loops and twisted harmonies! NICE PATCH!

Eloquencer, ornaments and crime (copiermaschine) and knit rider taking care of most of the sequencing. I’m glad you liked it! Whoops got you confused with someone else for a second, but if you haven’t heard of any of those “ornament and crime” and “eloquencer” are worth looking up even if your not Into the eurorack thing.

So many fun noises are happening right now :) so chilled out and at the same time is taking me on a total journey. Love the work you are doing here man :) do you ever play your flute and overlay it on top of your synth music??

very cool song! My eardrums are happy now, and I'm featuring it in a dsound curation digest!

Sweet, thanks!
