Welcome back to Mid-Day Motivation with me @justlibby! Every single day, I provide motivational quotes by some of the world's most influential men and women of all time.
We all know Dr. Seuss right? He's probably the most well-known children's book author all time.
Born as Theodor Seuss Geisel in Massachusetts to German immigrants, he had a loving childhood filled with reading and drawing. As a talented writer and illustrator, Seuss struggled with the path of his life's purpose.
While in college, he had his hands in both fields as the editor of the student newspaper at Dartmouth College. Due to his termination from the editor in chief because of being caught drinking on campus during prohibition, he secretly continued working for the paper under his middle name of Seuss.
Upon graduating from Dartmouth, he enrolled Lincoln College, Oxford, England with the intention of earning a PhD in English literature. During class, a fellow student named Helen Palmer noticed his incredible drawings while Seiss was doodling on notes. She encouraged him that his talents could lead him to a career as an illustrator.
They later married and moved to the US. After several illustrator jobs, Seuss tried his hand at writing and illustrating a children's book. With his quirky rhymes and imaginative characters, he captured the hearts of children and adults worldwide. During Dr. Seuss' incredibly successful career, he had written over 40 books and has sold over 600 million copies.
Even though Seuss had many accomplishments in his 87 years, he had his fair share of sorrows. At the height of his career, his wife, Helen of 40 years committed suicide. When she took her life, she left a note to him saying "sometimes think of the fun we had all thru the years."
Without the encouragement of Helen and support throughout the years. Seuss wouldn't have been so successful. Perhaps from his positivity, he reminded him through difficult times "Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened."
His simple yet effective quote could resonate with many situations in our lives. From the ending of a career or relationship, there is something we can take away from Seuss's statement.
