Welcome back to Mid-Day Motivation with me @justlibby! Every single day, I provide motivational quotes by some of the world's most influential men and women of all time.

Today's quote is in honor of the Academy Awards. Every year, Hollywood celebrates the most revolutionary and entertaining films. As glitzy and over the top awards season may be, it is time to reflect on how powerful and creative the medium filmmaking is.

Orson Welles is described as one of the greatest filmmakers and actors of all time. Born in an affluent family, his father was the businessman and inventor of the carbide lamp for bicycles and his mother was a concert pianist. Even as a child, it was clear that Welles was gifted in acting, writing, art, and piano. Unfortunately, his mother died when he was just nine and his father when he was 13.

As an orphan and heir of the family's fortune, he was raised by a family friend and later moved Ireland for a short while to try his hand at theater in Dublin.

After several successful runs on Broadway, Welles teamed up with Mercury Theater and performed on live radio his adaptation of H.G. Wells's novel The War of the Worlds. Legend has it that the airing sounded so real that listeners panicked over what they believed was a real alien invasion.

His performance fascinated Hollywood and Welles was given a contract with RKO to write and direct his own film with complete creative control.

At just 24 years old, he co-wrote, directed, and starred in what is now considered the best film of all time; Citizen Kane. While the success wasn't immediate or financially lucrative, it earned nine Academy Award nominations and winning best screenplay.

Welles groundbreaking use of camera and poetic portrayal of a character modeled after publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst has been an inspiration to countless filmmakers throughout the years.

After Citizen Kane, Welles went on the direct and act in dozens of critically acclaimed films. With his lifetime dedication to the craft and less than ideal health habits, he died of heart attack in 1985.
