Every song I write has some personal meaning. This one in particular was inspired several times over... thru audition after audition. I have been thru may fair share of auditions (both live and video), none of which ever "worked out" for me.
American Idol, The Voice, America's Got Talent, Detroit Super Singer, X-Factor - just to name a few. I was fortunate to make it to the second round of some of these, but that was it. Sometimes I left feeling discouraged, sometimes I left feeling pissed off, sometimes I left feeling sad. It took me awhile to realize that it wasn't exactly my talent that was lacking, but maybe it just wasn't meant to happen for me that way. (At least that's what I like to tell myself!)
Naturally, the songwriter in me came to the rescue and I decided to write a song about it. In comes "Shine". It poured out having a bit of a country flair, so I rolled with it. It's been a favorite among some of my friends/family/fans/followers.. and I think a big part of that is everyone can relate to it somehow. Have a listen and see if it stands true for you as well.
To anyone and everyone who's ever felt discouraged or not good enough, just know that you are awesome in your own unique way - Shine on.
"When you're signing up for battle
and you take your place in line
All these unfamiliar faces
trying to pass the time
Then you step into the spotlight
trying to clear your mind
You gotta leave your best impression
it's your time to shine
60 seconds to shine
Trying hard to find a balance
you feel so insecure
Then you rise up to the challenge
it's what you want for sure
60 seconds to shine
it's your moment in time
60 seconds to break it down and lay it out
turn the tables all around
Shine
60 seconds to shine
The moment goes by so fast
You know this feeling won't last
Then it's over in an instant
the faces fade away
But if it wasn't meant to happen
you're gonna make it another way
you'll make it another way
60 seconds to shine
it's your moment in time
60 seconds to break it down and lay it out
turn the tables all around
Shine
60 seconds to shine"

This is really a good song! Very professional sounding, and this music really suits your voice. The harmonies were just right for the musical style.

One quote that resonated with me, "Pain has it's purpose, it forces you to grow"
