End of Days: III. For God So Loved the World

in #dsound7 years ago (edited)

This is the third movement of my oratorio, End of Days, a piece written for solo sopranos, choir and orchestra.

This movement depicts Revelation 14:6-7 when in the midst of judgment, God sends 3 angels:

Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people. And he said with a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

I also have John 3:16:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Third movement for the oratorio, End of Days, written for two sopranos, choir, and orchestra.

For this recording, I used all software instruments and sang both soprano parts myself. The choir was EW Symphonic Choirs, and the orchestra consisted of Berlin Strings, and VSL instruments.

To listen to the fourth movement of this piece, click here.

I have the 1st movement written as well, but haven't recorded it yet. The 2nd and 5th movements are still works in progress, and who knows? I may end up adding a couple more movements before this thing is over.

Thanks for listening!

For virtual instruments, this sounds amazing. I bet it's a ton harder to write than it sounds. Excellent work!

Difficult to write, and since this was my first real attempt at using vi's, it was probably unnecessarily difficult. :)

Wauw, incredible, what VI's did you use? I tune to 432Hz and also not a fan of equal temperament but this is really good!

EastWest Symphonic Choir, VSL for the brass, winds, and some of the Kontakt VSL instrument library, and Berlin Strings. All done in Logic Pro X.

I'd like to eventually redo it all with Hollywood Orchestra, and possibly the new Hollywood Choir from EW - just quite convinced it's much better than Symphonic Choirs. If I redid it, though, I'd like to do A=432 if I can manage that. It's better tuning for singing in.

Btw I also have a Leap Motion which I'd like to use for this...

I use an external SSD to house the libraries themselves, but I run Logic on the internal drive. I find that works the best. I also store the Logic projects themselves on the SSD.

As far as the tuning goes, I'd have to look into the EW software plugins/Play platform, but I'm fairly certain microtuning can be done somehow. :)

I recently started using ARTzID because Play doesn't really have a good way to switch articulations. This software lets you turn your MIDI controller into a keyswitch to switch articulations. This uses Logic's articulations ID to map them out. It's pretty slick!

So you have global tuning i.e. tuning concerent pitch A=432Hz and then you have temperaments like Werkmeister III as an example.

Right, that sounds like a neat trick, I have the Leap Motion however I'm not doing anything with it.

I'm on a laptop with 256GB SSD, I don't know how Logix Pro X handles samples on an external HDD. But I do know you can easily setup the tuning in Logic itself, but that only applies to the internal plugins from Apple itself. Or maybe they changed it, I use Logic 9 still because of quite a few 32bit plugins I have.

It's been a while since I truly enjoyed a piece of opera. Great work!

Glad you enjoyed it! I love opera too.

Wow very nice voice @morodiene. So that is what Dsound is? I had no idea it is like a soundcloud. Anyway you have a new follower now. Keep it goin you have talent.

Thanks for listening and following! Ya, I just tested out Dsound for the first time with this. It will take some getting used to, but I like it.

Keep it going!

Thanks, I will try!

whoa! A very meaningful message, Thanks for sharing. God bless.

Thanks for taking the time to listen!

This is amazing. I'm floored. That weird space that being in awe creates, where you are both utterly enrapt and also completely humbled. It's beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing this, and I hope hope hope that you complete the oratorio. I showed the fourth movement to my girlfriend and she loved it. I have already sent this one to her, as well!

And I'm humbled as well by your complements! It's been a rough road and I vacillate between confidence in my work, hating it, and not caring about it at all. LOL I think it's the curse of being a musician. :)

I was going to say, me too!! Lol

Beautiful!

Thanks for listening :)

This is absolutely beautiful! Great writing and gorgeous voice! Love it!

Thank you for listening!

My pleasure!

I was listening to this earlier while Trish had it up--stunning. The whole production just blows me away.

I'm so glad you guys enjoyed it :)

This is brilliant!!! Its so soothing. I just closed my eyes while listening to it and what I visualized was - 'A new world is born' A planet is fully like a desert and slowly everything is created. Water is created, river starts flowing, plants are created, then animals etc etc. Everybody have their differnt way of visualizing things and this is what came to my mind while listening to your music. Great!! All the best! I'm following you :)

Wow, what a beautiful image! I hadn't thought of it that way, but that's the great thing about art: it leaves things up to the imagination of the listener to interpret. Thank you for listening and commenting!
