In Honor of International Women's Day
I wrote this delicate song several years ago, about the importance of music in my life.
It tells the story of how song – specifically, voice – was my solace as a little girl – how life somehow silenced that crucial medicine.
This is the only banjo tune I've written – I really have no idea how to play it, but I enjoy finding my own sound – something twinkly and harp-like rather than the typical twang.
when i was a little girl, i'd climb as high as i could go
up there, up above the world, i'd sing my little girl woes
my voice gave me wings, to lift me out of my little sufferings
as she learns how to care for and how to carry everything
my voice grew gradually smaller, as life taught me how to hide
the sound of my pain inside...this little bird forgot how to fly
'cause the heart of a little bird is such a delicate thing
as she carries the weight of the world on tiny, fragile wings
so take care of the little girls....take care
take care of the little birds....take care
for we all need to hear their heartfelt lullabies
to help draw the tears hiding in our eyes

i agree we all need to hear their heartfelt lullabies... I'm myself a quiet soul and I enjoy the more delicate, tranquil songs. I made a song I'd love to share with you, it's also a lullaby about a girl growing up and forgetting the wonder of being a child. By the way I love how you play the banjo, as much as I enjoy instruments I am not proficient at any but love to investigate how to mess with them, you came out with an unusual way to play it that worked perfectly. I wish my vote would mean more but if my encouragement and opinion counts, I loved it.
Thank you, sweet @yidneth. <3 Yes – your support and encouragement mean far more than an upvote. ;) I'm glad everyone is so appreciating the banjo. I spent a good couple hours with it after today's show.
I'd love to hear your song about the little girl!
This is just so pretty and I am in awe of your beautiful banjo melodies. You made the banjo sound actually Celtic in an impossible way and it's amazing me. I really love this a lot. Well done, milady..❤️
Smiles! I suppose it does sort of sound a bit Celtic. Hadn't though of that before. Glad you like it! :)

My words fail me right now...
That was simply stunning! The harmonies were just so right, it's hard to even describe how this song makes me feel....
Give me a couple of hours to process it through my emotions, and a few more listens, and perhaps I'll have something intelligent to say about this magical song...
that's pretty much the point of the song! You honor me greatly with your enthusiasm, dearest @amberyooper. <3 I'm grateful to know it touches you so. Indeed,

Just lovely, particularly the layered vocals. This line reveals so much about that little girl's situation:
as she learns how to care for and how to carry everything
I suppose it does – the little girl is me, and I've always carried the world on my shoulders. Glad you appreciated the song. <3 tip!
