STEEM POWER and BANDWIDTH effects on DTube | Why you should POWER UP

After a couple of weeks or so on the Steem blockchain, most people would already have a rough understanding of the major benefits of ‘powering up’ and having Steem Power. SP increases your influence on the platform when it comes to voting weight. It also earns interest, when Steem Dollar doesn’t. This is fair enough, because it signals your commitment to the platform.

One effect of SP that many people may not be aware of is it’s influence on ‘Bandwidth’. There are bandwidth caps on every user, which is determined by a number of factors - Steem Power being one of them.

All other things remaining constant, a higher SP value means a higher bandwidth, up to a point.

I came across this limitation recently when I tried to reply to a comment posted by a viewer, but I was unable to because I had hit my bandwidth cap. I had to either wait for 37 hours, or power up. Luckily I had some Steem Dollars in my account and was able to power up to smash through the low bandwidth cap I had due to low SP.

In other words, not powering up and having low Steem Power can restrict your interaction with your DTube audience.

I've hit bandwith issues on 3 different occasions so far but it seemed to be at a time when a lot of people were experiencing the same so I'm hoping it was also to do with the platform itself.

I had no idea SP earned interest @adetorrent. How does that happen and can we see it?

I understand it as such: there is a block in a chain, it has got n number of space which is then divided between us all. Your cut of that space depends on your Steem Power. When you use up the given number n, you wait for the next allocation of the space in the next block.

Yes indeed, it does. If you don't power up for a while and just watch the SP, you can see the value increase slightly. You'd have to be paying close attention though because you also get SP rewards that add to the SP over time.

Yes also, when there's a lot of congestion on the platform as a whole, the bandwidth cap reduces for everyone, so it's even easier to hit that limit.

Well done on reaching to people! I think it should help a lot of Steemians! I was actually wondering after reading the discord, how are you still able to engage! 😆 Money = Power 🌟

For sure 😂🌟💰💪🏿

Sir dear @adetorrent. My brother was flagged by a senior 6 times. Attacker had 62 repotation. After this ttack. He is facing badwidth problem every night. Even I don't feel.

Always good to learn more and more :D Thank You so much for putting this out there. See I didn't know about that :D

Thanks. I didn't understand about bandwidth. Much appreciated. Your channel is coming along. Nice job. I'm happy to have started the same month as you. It keeps me motivated :) Blessings

Do you receive a message if your bandwidth is low? I haven't been active much lately but when I tried to post a video today, it doesn't upload the video and instead there is a broken icon that appears. When it's done loading, it becomes frozen. It's been like this for 3 days now and I don't know what to do. My videos are small I believe, 200 or less mbs, and mp4 format. My browser has always been Chrome for my previous uploads and this is the first issue that's come up.

Hi,
Yes you get a small error message come up saying you've run out of bandwidth. It tells you to either power up more SP or wait for a given time. You won't be able to post anything at all - no photos, no text - so no comments either.

This looks like a different kind of error - maybe something to do with the video format you're uploading.
