I mostly agree with you. This fear mongering is mainly people who are afraid of the societal changes social media and the internet as a whole are bringing.
But while it brings amazing new oportunites, it's also scary. I mean yes theoretically you don't have to use those services but since they're so easy to use bring a lot of benefits, a lot of people in your peer groups will join them. And if you want to keep up, you will have to join them as well. I never wanted to use facebook, but my friends basically pressured me into registering an account.
Lots of benefits? Let's be real most of it is just a waste of time. By the way you should get a bunny profile photo. So it looks a bit better. Friends will always push you into be mediocre. Real progress will be scary because it will challenge yourself! Keep up? Most aren't doing anything exciting with their life. I haven't had a Facebook account for 2 years. I came back. Nothing new at all!!
On the other hand if you start a side business a few years later everyone will come to you. That's how it always works out! Since most people want some excitement instead of a predictable life script! If you never wanted to use Facebook but now you do then you aren't true to yourself. Live after your own value system in life not someone else!
I actually do think it has a lot benefits. I mean, you can get into contact with people on the other side of the planet within miliseconds. Facebook is just one way of doing that, Steemit is another.
The problem is, that I'm in contact with some people through Facebook, so even, if my friends wouldn't have pressured me, the need to get in contact with some people would have done the job on it's own. I came to terms with it, though. Facebook is just a messanger for me.
Also, yes, I was planning on getting a bunny profile pic. Hope i can get to it soon. Thanks for the advice!
