DILLAVOLTZ | Ghetto Gandalf | Modbap

It's J Dilla month! In memory of legendary HipHop producer James Dewitt Yancey aka J Dilla and the legacy of incredible sonic offerings that he blessed the world with in his short time of this planet. I salute the King of Beats by not only listening to his music but also listening to the music and fellow producers that influenced his greatness. This month I'm going back to my HipHop roots, digging through my vinyl collection to pick out some of my favorite songs that J Dilla sampled. The challenge is to flip the samples in a new way and add on to the Boombap tradition. To push my beats in a different direction I'm using my modular synth, Akai MPC60II and Elektron Machinedrum for these beats that my crew and I call Modbap, modular synth boombap. Here's the 2nd beat in this series. DillaVolts - Ghetto Gandalf http://audibleobjects.com

RIP to the teacher DIlla. He definitely spawned a whole sub genre of hip hop. There wouldn't be certain art forms today without him.

Absolutely! I really dig artist that are influenced by Dilla without sounding like a carbon copy.
you can totally hear the influence of Pete Rock, Diamond D, Preemo and RZA in some of Dilla's work but he always added his sonic signature to what he did.

rest in peace to one of the illest
