YouTubers Rapidly Making the Move to Dtube!?

in #dtube7 years ago (edited)

Are YouTube's Days Really Numbered?

Over the last 24 hours we've seen numerous complaints from small (and big) YouTube content creators who are upset with the newest updates to the YouTube Partnership Program (YPP). The newest TOS requires a channel to have 4,000 hours of watchtime within the past 12 months and 1,000 subscribers in order to be eligible for monetization. Meanwhile on dtube, content creators are allowed to earn revenue from their videos from day one without meeting any requirements at all. This has forced content creators to make a big decision: Stay with YouTube or join the dtube movement?

If you're interested in tutorials and how-tos, I encourage you to follow my channel and leave me replies of things you would like to learn about. If I don't know the answer, we'll learn together! :)

Dude!! @grantcardone (the man!) Can't believe you dropped by my channel! I knew you were on Steemit and Dtube already but to see you this active is very cool. Love your stuff man! Keep inspiring entrepreneurs worldwide and doing your thing. Appreciate the love. :)

💪🏼🙌🏼💯

I really like the idea of Dtube and I really hope that more creatures start to use the platform. I could still be a while until more non cryptocurrency related creators make the transition.

Yeah, that's true. I think this recent TOS change my speed things along.

It's changing a lot these days. Love it (:

I was also thinking about finally putting a YouTube content strategy in place but these moves really make me think twice. Maybe the best bet would be to make content native for dtube and use YouTube as a secondary portal (with no expectation of revenue). Thanks for the great video once again Brandon 🤙🏼

That's really a good plan. I remember when I first started that Vlog Channel on YouTube. I had to work up to a certain amount of views and subs before I got approved. And now they're upping those numbers... so there's nothing to say they can't do it again. So I would recommend using your YT channel for more exposure and (like you said) not expecting a direct revenue source from it.

I've been thinking about starting up a YouTube channel that's specific for my website, but the new TOS really are making me reconsider that. I'm imagining that YouTube's reason is that they want to discourage spam, but they really are killing the Golden Goose here. All the better for DTube and decentralized media.

Yeah, not sure why they keeping driving nails in the coffin (so to speak) but I don't believe they're doing themselves any favors.

Yes, just wonder if YT will rethink this because many future YTers will not even attempt at making any videos because of these recent strict changes. This could impact them terribly, no ?? I think so

Yup, I think it will happen in droves with this new update to the TOS. I've seen creators all day totally in flames about it (and I would be too)! I hope that if there is a mass exodus of some sort over here to Steemit and Dtube that there isn't a mindless replication of channels at first. I'd love to see original, Steemit-exclusive content (note: not necessarily "Steemit-related").

Agreed. My DTube content is pretty Steemit-related right now, but once I figure out how to speed up the upload time (maybe it's a compression issue?), I'll be able to expand to other content as well.

I agree completely and I believe that's what we'll see happen with this new movement of content creators coming into the platform. They'll not only bring more original and creative content but also their following which are more interested in a variety of topics. And I look forward to it! :)

yes i am a youtuber and now i am move all my videos to DTube

I really don't believe that big Youtubers will join and use Dtube. While the monetisation it is just a 7 days limit I don't think that exchange will happen soon... not with the mainstream popular Youtubers that live from all the "free" advertisement they get from their following all over the social networks.

I can agree with that. At least I don't think that they'll only use dtube for their content. At least not for now as many of these guys are still making a killing on YouTube, even with a few of their videos getting demonitized. But I have noticed some big channels joining dtube as a secondary stream of revenue such as @grantcardone, Altcoin Buzz, @boxmining, and many others. And if YouTube's problems persist (or get worse) they might just rely solely on dtube. But you're right, for now it doesn't make sense for them to completely move to dtube.

Im actually one of the youtubers who is testing the system. I have a gaming channel and i have started reuploading some of my videos here but i don't really think my channel will take off since my content is in Bulgarian. Still i like the idea that when some one asks me "Do you get paid for likes" i will be able to say YES.

The only issue I have is there is no hd upload option.

I can get round it by watching videos by changing the setting from 480p to Source.

However sometimes when you do that, there is really bad buffering and sometimes the videos will take up to a minute to load and sometimes an error gets thrown up and won't play at all.

Dtube is a game changer- a logical evolution in content sharing. I’m impressed with it so far.

Same here! I've actually found it to be a lot easier to use than YouTube as well.

Great overview as always Brandon. The new youtube terms will seriously demotivate a lot of new Youtubers, but will also annoy some bigger Youtubers. I'm sure that with the massive influx of users, DTube will be gaining a lot of traction.

I agree and I'm looking forward to it. We've already got some big names in the crypto space joining dtube so hopefully we'll see more variety of big names coming on board as well.

Yep, it should be interesting as they are likely to pull in a lot of followers, so more Steemians!

I guess youtube will be resting in peace soon

Thanks @brandonfrye,
I also posted about this on my blog today. Wow, this really changes the game for so many YTers and ones that were yet to be ( and probably won't now) I think this will be huge for us here at Steemit. Let the migration begin LOL

And also a big Thanks for the quality Content you are putting out, Brandon. Been going back and watching some of your tutorial like videos :)

Thank you @robertandrew, I appreciate the comment and feedback. Much appreciated!

I've never made a video, much less one to upload. But until a coyple of months ago, I'd never blogged or had an interest in cyptocurrency... So, it seems like it'a a good time for firsts! I'll be watching for some how-tos and tutorials for dtube!

I remember my first videos. I always said I would NEVER make a video for the public, lol. Well.. over the last 3 years I've put out hundreds of videos. So yeah, we all have to get started somewhere. And don't worry if you're nervous or mess up at first. You'll get more and more used to it as time goes on. Hope to see you in a video soon!

I watch YouTube everyday and since early last year when the adpocalyse hit it's just non stop moaning about how they aren't making as much money. Kinda ruins it for the viewer too because you have to listen to it. Lol

If they all moved over I would definitely prefer it. They'd need to have an xbox app though. But I don't see that happening.

That's a good point. I guess that's the only way the creators have any way of pushing back since YouTube (Google) doesn't exactly have a phone number to call. But not good for viewers either.

And I was thinking last night how I would love to have an app on my smart tv for dtube. I use the YouTube app all the time.. almost as if it's actual tv. So would be cool if the developers could pull that off.

Yeah. I just can't force myself to sit at a computer to watch it.

The steemit revolution is here!!
I don't think there's going to be a sudden switch, but over time people will notice little steemit just keep on chugging away and showing that people can be profitable at any level. There is a learning curve with steemit, but the more we help each other out the quicker we'll change social media!

Yes! The Steemit train will continue to chug along... 🚂

Yes!!!! Spread the Dtube news!! I'm loving it and thinking this will be such an epic platform once they get everything rocking 100%.

I have never been a fan of Google, ever since they slapped me way back in 2008 because I put their Ad Sense code on my marketing forum lol Long story but since then, just haven't trusted them because they could change their terms at anytime and then....Up the creek without the paddle.

Awesome to see you on Dtube man. Big things ahead!

Absolutely, get the word out that there ARE other options. Much better options at that!

@jongolson Not sure if you just caught Altcoin Buzz’s last video but they’re coming to dtube! Finally!!

nice video I do feel like Dtube will beat youtube in the long run Because Youtube is constantly Demonotizing Creators content

Yeah, it's just a matter of time before decentralization (blockchain technology) takes over ever sector we know. And.. I'm glad to see so many pioneers here making that happen. :)

@brandonfrye Let's hope so. Would be awesome for Steemit.

the more and more the better it gets and soon YouTube will be a thing of the past.

Yeah it’s things like this that just further our decentralized movement.

I got the same email, bye bye youtube Hello Dtube its the future youtube going to die slowly keep the great clips coming. Subscribed to you.

I’m with you on that! Thanks @cryptonz!

First thanks for the steem$ I already converted to steem power. I did get the same email from youtube this morning. I guess I need to get my self setup on Dtube now. I will probably still post on youtube also but but on Dtube/steemit first.

You’re welcome and thanks for your comments and feedback. And I love hearing when you guys power up that SBD!

And just a side note: I’ve noticed over the last couple of days that my reach has been increased by using dtube. People are finding my videos there and here.

Yes I was planning on posting there on my next video anyway hoping next month I will have one ready.

Actually, i expect the great-fat-big youtube -> dtube exodus to happen any moment now. Youtube is really getting out of control lately.

This post has received a 2.69 % upvote from @booster thanks to: @brandonfrye.

YouTube devalues its loyal users, time to switch to DTube :)

Glad to hear you're moving too!

Only thing for me is that DTube's user base seems to only be consuming crypto related content. I could be wrong though

That is one good reason for more people bringing their content from YouTube. It will create a place for much more varied content. The reason for so much crypto content now is that the early adopters of Steemit/dtube were crypto investors/enthusiasts. But that will definitely change with time.

Sounds like it’s a great time to get on the dtube train. Youtube is pushing out the type of content that made it great, which is a shame, but leaves a big vacuum for other platforms to take over.

May I suggest you make a video where you take a deeper look at posting on dtube and it’s benefits over Youtube?

Hey @nostone-unturned, sure I can definitely do that. I have a few ideas for tutorials I think are need for dtube and will be covering those in some upcoming videos. Thanks for the suggestion!

It seems like Youtube is really headed for boobtube.
So the more youtubers migrate our way its makes steem more valuble?
Yay! This is getting more fun every nano second!
With the price of SBD as they are, and my transfers imminent, maybe I should buy some more.
Thanks Brandon, now I will become a Dtuber.
L

Lol "boobtube". YouTube is definitely creating unnecessary problems for their creators, that's for sure. And that's completely up to you, but I believe the markets are starting to head north again so I would do it soon before it shoots off again.

And I was only considering joining youtube yesterday. Daaaaamn

I'm really not much of a video guy (I really have a face for radio) but I certainly am excited to see the shift coming faster than expected. I'm all for anything that makes/allows Steemit to grow.

Thanks for another terrific instructional video and for all the work you do for the platform!

1000 Youtube subscribers are not that easy to get. Good news for Dtube i guess ...

Really hope that Dtube can fix the bugs soon.
Many times i watch videos on Dtube and it get stuck for no reason, I do love watching videos. This is a game changer

I was having the same issues and have found that recently I haven't been having as many problems with the site. So they must be working hard to improve it.

Came across your youtube channel whilst searching for content about curation and rewardings.

Great video you made about timings of voting and how to vote to gain curation rewards. Exactly the information needed!

I just followed you cause of great content! keep it up @brandonfrye!

looking forward to watch more of your content.

Love,
John

Thanks John (@johnasp96) I appreciate that!

The way I see it, Dtube is healthy competition for YouTube and they can healthily coexist aslong as the competition drives them both to innovation and keeping the creator happy.

I am one of them who is planning to transfer all of my Youtube videos to DTube. I have noticed that for the last 12 months my earnings are nothing more than few cents. Even though I am not a famous Youtuber but my videos get views. Two days ago I also got an email from Youtube Creators stating that in February they are going to terminate the partnership program with my channel because it does not meet the new requirements. I am and will be happy without it. I think unlike Youtube, DTube gives complete liberty to uploaders .

Great video! I am also new on Dtube. And yes, I do have a small YouTube channel! Thanks for the info!

I have started moving my channel to DTube as well due to the greed and stupidity of YouTube. I will support decentralised technology like DTube and Steemit that will benefit everyone, and stop showing my videos on the corporate tube they call "YouTube".

Posting on youtube is like walking on egg shells, it's only a matter of time before they remove a video clip for what a person says. They removed a video of mine for no reason at all. Hope Dtube makes is big!!!
