In this video, I discuss Tim Todd's most recent book, "Let us Put Our Money Together." This book tells the history of banking and black America. More specifically, the author discusses the unique challenges and obstacles faced by blacks throughout early American history as they worked to set up their own "black banks."
One might wonder why blacks needed their own separate banks. After the civil war, newly freed blacks struggled to start businesses, gain financial sovereignty, and find trusted sources of capital and savings.
Todd provides a thorough breakdown of the characters, events, and pivotal moments that tell the story in a coherent and well researched manner. I offer my review and reflection about the book in this video.
