Tallin, Estonia June 11, 2017 – Papemaguette Diagne and Belal Abunabot helped out Qatar end their 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League campaign on a positive note, with a 3-1 (27-29, 25-16, 45-43, 25-13) marathon win over Venezuela in Group 3 at Kalev Sports Hall on Sunday.
Five players collected double-digit outputs on both sides. Qatar’s Papemaguette scored 18 points, while Venezuela’s Edson Venezuela made 19 points on a losing effort.
Qatar’s key weapon were their 21 blocks that intimidated the Venezuelan attackers.Both teams already lost their chances to secure a final four spot, but they certainly made a great impression in their exit. The third set thriller lasted for 49 minutes that Ilija Ivoic secured for Qatar with an attack and an ace to end it at 45-43.
The first set was also quite a thriller. Qatar’s good blocking gave them an 11-7 advantage, but Venezuela reduced the gap with great service and counter-attack game. Venezuela succeeded in their run and ended the set with a 29-27 edge.
Qatar retaliated with a big lead to win the second set, then had to work really hard in the marathon third set. Qatar gained a 2-1 advantage.Qatar grabbed an 8-3 lead in the fourth set, as Venezuela did not manage to overcome the tough loss in the third set, allowing the former to end the set and match at 25-13.
