Not a huge amount. I give a lot of what I grow away, and I don't grow a lot of high calorie foods :)

Right on. Yeah, fruits and veg aren't super nutrient/calorie dense. Adding chickens helps a lot I've found. Like you do, that way you're getting a good high calorie animal food from the garden along with the plant foods.
As for the amount of food you get, would you say you've spent more on the plants and seeds than you would have if you'd bought the same food in the store? I know a $50 fruit tree pays itself off and even gives a good return over time. Have you worked out any of that cost/payoff on paper?

I would say I have a good return on investment for everything I grow. Usually I will spend about $100 a year on seeds. I also give small plants away that I have sprouted from seed, but can't fit them in my garden, which I could sell if I wanted to.
I haven't worked out any cost/payoff analysis but I should. I do it more for just growing the best food I can eat and share with others to get them growing. 😄@nateonsteemit Yeah chickens help for sure!!
