Before joining the Toastmasters club, I always felt like Public speaking was this impossible task.
I thought people were born with the skill set to speak eloquently in front of people.
But one day, I went to a Toastmasters meeting & saw this geeky Indian kid get on stage to give a speech.
Couldn't believe what I saw.
This dude who looked like a brown Steve Urkel changed when he had the spotlight on him.
Felt a car that turned into a Transformer.
He opened his mouth & widened his body language.
Then he began to radiate with charisma as he gave a speech about his recent career change.
How?
How did he have such a strong sense of composure?
I was this kid who worked out, took my fashion seriously & had solid body language.
But could I ever dream of speaking like that at the time?? Fuck no.
I knew the only way to find out was by directly asking him!
He seemed happy when I asked him how he became such a good speaker. But he was also very surprised.
'Why?'
Because he said he found it shocking that anyone considered him a good speaker .
'Why?'
Because he used to be an awful speaker.
Just like my Indian friend, many other speakers who entered Toastmasters were awful at first.
They genuinely had 0 belief that it was even possible to get up on stage & not look like a buffoon.
And I know this because I was one of those individuals.
The fact that my Indian friend took the time out of his day to share his struggles AND how he overcame it meant the world to me.
He was a big factor in helping me shift my paradigm regarding public speaking.
And the shift in paradigm was what ultimately led me to begin my journey.
And now it is time to give back.
Which is why tomorrow myself & fellow Toastmaster Edrico Ambristor will be doing an exclusive DTube episode delving deep into the public speaking world.
Edrico has held leadership positions in his Toastmasters club & is now competing for the upcoming Districts competition.
He also is the host of the Podcast 'Speakers Secrets' where he helps many people around the world enhance their speaking skills.
This episode will help you shift your paradigm regarding the world of speaking.
No lie.
We will share:
- Our initial struggles with public speaking.
