I wondered if this would happen. Steemit was doing fairly well in China. Will they block all possible front ends and are there ways to bypass the great firewall? I'm sure people will try, but I cannot imagine living with such a censored internet.
I think most Steemians in China use VPN every day probably. Firewall is getting stronger, I have to find new VPN everytime I go back to China. I also wonder if they will block all the front ends, or is it even possible? Also I wonder if @wherein survives the firewall, how they will comply with the Chinese internet regulation thing. News is pretty new, probably more updates in the coming weeks.

its all blocked in china, long time can not open my account, even with VPN, strongly rectricted no chance... hard time, it is a pity (:+:). Best reagards Renkn shandong huimin
I'm sure anyone operating a VPN is carefully watched. The authorities do not seem to want to give too much freedom, which is sad to see.
Freedom, those guys don’t give and most of the people there don’t dare to care anymore. All good.
That being said, I still believe such a laughable government will collapse at one point.

This is so sad you do not have the same interent access as I do here in the United States. I really take it for granted at times, wow, be careful that is scary about the missing girl! :-)
Yea, luckily i don't live in China atm but every time I go back, it's a problem to access internet, you have to constantly switch VPN on off on lol
Such a shame that the Chinese government is blocking all the free speech and new technologies like Steem blockchain that can help way more than they can damage. It actually makes no sense what they are doing.
Yea. Such a disgrace.
And Tencent just invested $150Million USD into Reddit. Ironic, because Reddit is blocked in China. Makes you wonder how that site's gonna fare in the next couple years...

are you able to access Steem dapps other than steemit.com?
I think so far all the dapps you can acess, but not to log in with steemconnect.
Posted using Partiko iOS
Cant access busy, dtube, steempeak etc. The pages load, but no content
Posted using Partiko Android
Thx for the info. I think they blocked some more then. Damn
Posted using Partiko iOS
So dtube site loads but no content? Even with posting key to log in?
Yes. This is what it looks like:
Only Watch Again displays (i think because that part is stored on the browser). However, when you click to watch it, the video and information does not load.
Busy.org:

not possible to open all steemit issues , even dtube
Have you tried @wherein. This is a Chinese app for the phone for Steem. This could be your answer.
I think I’ve posted about it already. Yea atm you can still use it.

thanks for covering!
Welcome ^^
Thanks for checking it out.
$rewarding 100% 15min
Wow! I was not aware. Thank goodness for VPNs!
Posted using Partiko iOS
You need to register to use VPNs.
Man, Chinese are crazy strict with their censorship laws...
I actually checked out the list of websites they blocked. Basically everything from google to reddit.
Posted using Partiko iOS
Tough going for all our people there...... We Indians are having a much easier time on the censorship issues. Of course its not all good, but not as bad either.
On the other hand our crypto laws are sucking as bad as anywhere....
Hmmm, did this video cause the censorship?
Was this your fault @kenanqhd? :)
lol hahhahah

what does it means? does it sense?
Don't apologize for something someone else is doing. The VPN/VPS I used at work when travelling.
Thanks. Everytime I go back to China, I learnt more VPNs.

This ain't happening dear
@joythewanderer, Unfortunate to hear that, but good to know that you'll can access Partiko. Stay blessed.
Thanks.
Welcome.
It's very sad that theory became reality now: China's cyber sovereignty over the universalism of the internet
It’s only getting worse nowadays.
Posted using Partiko iOS
Yes very sad! Luckily you're not there, are you?
No but sometimes I go back for a short trip or smth.
Please take care! Since one of my first partnerships with an Asian social network has censored my posts and pictures broaching the issues of human rights and the situation of the Uyghurs, I will avoid entering the country.

Thanks, some family members are in China, I have no choice. I actually know a friend got asked if he ever shared a certain link (Apple Daily) as they installed MFSocket on his device. But I think my account here on steem has far less influence compared to his. I largely stopped using Chinese social media afte posts getting deleted a couple of times.
Damn!!!

It saddens me that the Chinese government must still be so overbearing. I have been hearing about them using facial recognition tech to monitor people on the street, and It just sickens me.
Oh facial recognition tech, hasn’n been in use yet I think, but sooner or later, probably under close development ^^ but really some journalists got blacklisted already, like they can’t buy train tickets etc anymore.
Posted using Partiko iOS
Hmm...now where did I read about them using it. Ugh, the social credit system. Just vile. Those poor journalists.
They are definitely shady this is for sure.
Posted using Partiko iOS
Facial recognition is absolutely in use, especially in places like Xinjiang but even here in Shanghai. There are numerous counts of criminals getting caught in huge crowds thanks to the technology, and even the UK is buying into the technology in hopes of becoming just as dystopian...
Thanks for the clarification. I didn't know much about it, I guess it can for sure be used for good intention too! Oh you live in Shanghai?
I'm not sure it's a 'good' that most people in the west are willing to take on... me neither really when there's 26 cameras (I counted) watching me from my 5 minute walk from the metro to my home...
And yep, Downtown shanghai =)
Facial recognition tech is used more and more by the west too. This is happening all over the planet
Not to that extent yet ...
Unfortunately this is true. Glad this stuff was not around when I was young. hahaha.
You don't know much about China if you think the same is happening everywhere.
I never claimed knowledge of China or that things are the same everywhere. Facial recognition tech IS being developed and used in the "west' at a greatly increasing rate though.
"This is happening all over the planet" pretty much sounds like " the same is happening everywhere".
If you say "It's snowing in Beijing" and I say "It's also snowing in New England." Not many people would interpreter that I was claiming the AMOUNT of snow was the same or that I even knew much about how much snow was falling in Beijing.
Good though.

I was having this conversation with nathan earlier today. This might seem like a drawback but it wont stop steem from dominating Asia. Yes the government might have control over the media in China but things will definitely change with time. People must be free to express themselves.
Sure. TBH, the cn community isn’t big on Steem afterall, maybe it was better when price was higher. I believe at one point things have to change too.
Posted using Partiko iOS
Hopefully things change. And I believe people in china who are interested in steem will find a way around their firewall
Posted using Partiko Android
Was to be expected, only a matter of time. As soon as non-censored media reach a critical mass in China, they get blocked. I was a bit surprised that it still was freely available when I visited China 2 months ago.
Yea, it’s expected I wonder if they will take down all other front ends as well.
Posted using Partiko iOS
Probably. If they notice any significant traffic from China to any steemit-frontend, they will block it.
They already did? Kenan said earlier busy, dtube are now also blocked. :(
Posted using Partiko iOS
I'm not in China, so I don't know. According to blockedinchina they aren't. But maybe they started blocking them & it takes a while until they are blocked everywhere.
since steem is decentralized.I think It's Hard to block it totally.
Posted using Partiko Android
Yes and no. You need some way to acces the steem chain, and if every website and/or dapp that allows you to do so is blocked, then it becomes more difficult for the average user.
Censorship on Steemit...the friendly social platform.....
Posted using Partiko Android
It's good news. Because, if Chinese govt is restricting steemit in its territory, that shows how powerful and revolutionary steemit actually is, as a medium of expression.
Moreover, its nothing new. China always restricts that gives freedom of expression to its citizens. So, the government has actually endorsed the power of steemit and the danger it poses to the world of regulated Internet.
Soon, the whole world will come to know about it.
haha yea maybe it can become as famous as google, reddit and other. Welcome to the club, steemit.com.

Based on your comments, seems like you have no intention of returning to China. Please be careful even when you go back to visit family in future.
Thanks I do hope I had a big influence like that tho, I dont even mind renouncing my Chinese nationality first tbh, then I can join other one much easier lol, dont have to go through all the hussles.

Congratulations @joythewanderer!
Your post was mentioned in the Steem Hit Parade in the following category:
u think mychat will be based on blockchain some day? + you may like the talk at 35c3 concerning the social credit system
i think blockchain is a little bit more for communism than for capitalism, because everybody could know what everybody else has got inside the particular chain.
btw I do know that neither china is 100% communistic, nor we live in a 100% capitalistic system.
like the scope on individualism here and on collectivism there.
wechat. i meant wechat :D
This post has been included in the latest edition of SoS Daily News - a digest of all you need to know about the State of Steem.
Thanks for including it in your news!
You are welcome. Do let me know if you get any more updates on the situation.
According to Kenan, the pages load, but no content. So probably they blocked it too...
Hi @heimindanger! It’d be awesome if you could have a look at my messages on discord. Tagging @dtube as well in case that’s the better way to reach out to you... Thanks :-))
