Making the Most of your DTube Posts

If you haven't gotten into using @dtube yet, I HIGHLY recommend it. It's so great being able to put videos straight onto STEEM, having another platform through which to browse & such, and of course it's great that the platform has its own account, and supports lots of the creators using it.

I put many of my videos ONLY on DTube, mostly those that are Vlogs and such. However, with some of my more important videos, those that I really want to have around for a long time, I also put them on YT & FB. I do this for two reasons:

  1. FB & YT both often allow me to get much bigger reach with those videos.
  2. Assuming they don't get flagged down for some reason, videos on both of those platforms stick around forever, while DTube videos are temporary.

That's right, when you upload a video onto DTube, it puts it on the IPFS (Interplanetary File System), but if you aren't seeding (just like torrents) those videos, then they are going to disappear after a while. @heimindanger & @dtube host them for us temporarily for us, but it would be quite expensive to do so indefinitely.

There are a lot of folks who also upload to @dtube & YT both, but unfortunately many of them end up double posting on STEEM (one for the dtube upload and one for the YT video itself). I really dislike the idea of double-posting, and that DTube video basically becomes useless after the IPFS file disappears.

My Solution

I just make one post, my @dtube upload. Once I've uploaded it there (with all the text description and such), I go in on SteemPeak and make some tweaks, moving up the dtube & ipfs links that are auto-populated and centering them with the video itself to look cleaner. I also go in and add links to any other places the video has been uploaded. I also replace the DTube hyperlink in the image to the YT post, so it will be viewable forever.

Taking it a Step Further

If anyone is interested (and maybe has the tech knowledge), I would LOVE to pool some funds together and run an IPFS server so that we can keep our videos on DTube permanently. Reach out to me in the comments, on Discord, or on Telegram (I'm 'kennyskitchen' everywhere) and let's make it happen.

Nice. Thanks! I still don't really get it but I'll try it when I have another video to upload. Is that why I have videos on my Dtube from a year ago but they won't play?

Yup, you get 1-2 weeks (depending on how much is being uploaded I believe), then it stops being seeded on the IPFS.

Let me know if you want to hop on a zoom call & screenshare once so you can see exactly what I do.

Good solution for a crossposter :) I personally pay 10$/month to the onelovedtube ipfs and this solves the problem for me because I don't want to upload every single of my videos to centralised platforms to keep them payable on the blockchain :P
But thanks for the tip :) next one will be fitting for me for sure!

Peace!

Oh cool, that's the first I've heard of that, glad there is already a solution :-)

I'll check it out, but I'm thinking of maybe making something like that for @TribeSteemUp

Yes it is a fairly good solution for all those who are new to this site and it is very good at your sharing your information with others to let others know about this very new things.

Bit of a shame really! Can they not implement a system like Bitchute of link up with Bitchute? Is this the same with DSound as I have just started a Podcast on here and don't want the to disappear after two weeks. Are there any other decentralised podcast options anyone knows of ? 💯🐒
